Aquarium reefs hate that copper, we eliminate it using: Seachem CupriSorb is a powerful adsorbent of copper and heavy metals. CupriSorb will remove copper more rapidly and efficiently than carbon and is thus ideal for emergency copper removal. It extracts all types of copper, including chelated copper, and remains effective until it turns a deep blue-black color. It may be regenerated repeatedly. If placed in continuous use, it will gradually extract even precipitated copper from the gravel/substrate bed as well.🧡

I havw a question about your waste copper nitrate solution. All of the nitric you use will eventually end up as copper nitrate, after you are done cementing silver out of it. What do you do with it? evaporate and sell copper nitrate (about $25/kg) or have someone else dispose of it? It will contain some chlorides and sulfates as well since you use those acids as well in your processes. You could theoretically cement copper out on iron scrap as well and have copper powder.

After all the silver is removed, I add the copper nitrate solution to a bucket with more copper to get all the precious metals out of the liquid. Then I add the copper nitrate to a waste treatment bucket full of iron. The copper cements out and I end up with iron in solution. I don’t refine the copper because I don’t know how. I end up tossing it. Copper is useful but after that it becomes waste and not worth the time and effort to recover it. Clean copper for refining is cheap and plentiful.

Economy doesn’t matter, I have all this silver sitting around that I recovered from my gold refining. I need to get it going through my silver cells, no matter what the cost is. But, those anode filter bags used to cost $7.99 for years. They’ve gone to $14.99 due to money printing ruining the value of the currency. Those filters haven’t increased in value, nor have they become more scarce. The value of the currency has declined and it’s got a long way to go. Cash is trash. I get paid in gold and silver, not paper. If I get paper, I convert to gold and silver immediately, while it’s still grossly undervalued. I’m not getting stuck holding stacks of worthless paper. Twenty grand in the bank back in 1970 bought the same amount of stuff that a million in the bank will buy today. That’s how much the value of our currency (US dollars) has declined.

@@sreetips perhaps scaling up instead of out would provide the answer. Large stainless stockpot from Walmart, the largest plastic container the vacuum bag will go over the outside of (ir buy by the bolt and make your own), drill with smaller and more holes, invert lid for electrolyte containment, larger anode, double twist the wire where it goes into the anode to help prevent thinning. Should be able to knock silver to the bottom of the vessel and run longer without risk of shorting while creating even greater surface are for crystal growth. @@sreetips You can determine a minimum size for the wires based on the expected current draw. Since the current is only an amp or so, and the length of the wires is only a few feet, you could get away with 12 or 14 AWG wires. Wire sizes above 10 AWG are less flexible and might present problems for making connections to the power supply. Smaller wires will drop some voltage and make your power supply readings a bit different than what is seen at the cell.
