Great video, very thorough. It is CRITICAL that you wait several minutes after disconnecting the battery before working with anything related to the airbags. All modern vehicles have capacitors that supplement power for the deployment of airbags in case the battery loses power during an accident.

with the battery disconnected can you simply tough the positive to negative connectors to discharge the capacitors?

@@L2fishyes with the key in the on position and both battery terminals disconnected. You can then touch the positive and negative terminals together and discharge any leftover voltage

My friend it was very informative. I after 2year repair from a what i'am now calling a FU UP body repair shop I did learn I need to throw somebody ass under my tires 😒. Informative and good instruction on procedures. HOWEVER add one last thing before installing sensor(s) add dielectric grease to help against corrosion. Lessens environmental impact of salt/mag chloride and sea salt. Thank you.

My Sierra 1996 SLE GMC impact sensor warning light flashes intermittently and I just can’t find the sensors under the front of my truck! I have looked many times & still can’t find them! Any suggestions would be most helpful! Either that I may have to disconnect the warning light on the instrument panel as a last resort!

Iowa the same. They use a salt brine made from corn. So corrosive. They spray it on the roads right before snow especially bridges and overpasses.

I probably don't need to do it but I like to take both under the hood and in the cab airbag fuses out just in case of any static energy that might be left in the system .

I think my truck only has 1. 2005 gmc sierra 2500hd. Did the previous only change it to make only 1? If so would that be causing the light to go on?

Great video. My light was on for a long time. Then recently noticed when my wife got in the truck the "passenger airbag off" was lit on my mirror even after my wife got in so I figured it was the passenger side one so I followed your instructions. It looked so easy but was a pain to do. Well, the light is still on so I guess I need to do the driver's side next. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

I noticed my airbag service light was on the next day after I changed my 2008 Silverados driver seat. I re-plug the wires in the black box under the driver seat so I'm wondering if that's could problem?

Hi, I have the same model. I actually had to change the bottom buttons on my steering wheel which required me to remove the airbag upon replacing it and reconnecting. The battery I have the same message didn’t have any loose connections or fuses blown, and was very careful about handling the airbag, when connecting a disconnecting is there something that I need to do or I heard that once you drive, the cycle will clear itself on its own

did all the steps in the video but I tested my sensors using a multimeter, the sensor should read around 3.4 ohms connected to the multimeter in one directions and should read ol in the other direction, if it reads ol both ways its bad. I am still having an issue with the system though, not sure what to do next.

Nice info, but at that price how do you determine which of the sensors or if even one of them is bad? I remember we also have the windows sensors , could you explain that for me please

unless you have an expensive scan tool you can't tell. just have to replace on and see if it works, if not put the old one back in on that side and swap the other side. typically sensors that go bad will look swollen and typically have salt stuck in the sides of them.

If you have steering wheel controls you loose all functionality of that so it’s worth the money. And your dash always says service airbag which is annoying I missed seeing my odometer hit 250,000 because of that.

I saw on another video. That if you rub your finger along the barcode of the censor. You can feel a bulge on the broken censor. A way to identify which one is bad without having a scanner.

Is there anyway to prevent from getting salt and grime inside the sensor from my point of view these sensors look like they were made pretty weak and prone to failure can you make them more resiliant by adding glue or silicone to the seam in the middle? Would that affect the function of the sensor?

I’m not sure if there is anything that can be done. Electrical components are funny. I would be worried that adding something to the sensor may stop it from working during an accident.

Dont see an issue w a lil silicone, be sure to use some electric plug grease when plugging back in to keep the water out of the plug..

Bro sometimes on my custom fog light related stuff the wires boxes that are low I wrap them with zip lock baggies and the ends with electrician black tape if this helps you any

Andrew Barnhart I’m guessing it has something to do with the passenger seat being sensitive to weight. If there is not enough weight on the passenger seat it will not deploy the passenger side airbag in an accident. No point in deploying the airbag if no one is sitting there.

I checked wires and then replaced both sensors but did not fix problem. I took my truck to my mechanic who had a code reader that showed a bad module which when replaced has to be reprogrammed by a dealer.

@@fredfowler5895 SO I brought my 2006 silverado last week to the dealer for a 50$ diagnostic. Called around, cheapest sensor I could find here was 287 CAD aftermarket. dealers was 347 CAD for a single sensor.

@@thebitedown yes it works but only until the next start up of vehicle The airbag light will remain on but the Service airbag cancels until next start. I’m having issues with my 05 silv1500. I removed and inspected the 2 front impact sensors the are in really good condition with no cracks or signs of water ingress. I unplugged all connections cleaned and reconnected. Also checked the wiring under the passenger seat. No luck.

There is an empty area on the truck that is just about large enough to hold a wallet, i cut that area out and created a template that the switches sit in. Then you run all the wires behind the dash.

They’re both the same. Dorman 590-206 (Qty. 2) they fit my 2008 Chevy Silverado (fits GM 15297468). If you have a different model of vehicle, verify the part # for your vehicle before ordering. GM utilizes other impact sensors with a different part number for other vehicles.

Mark Rush not 100 percent sure to be honest. I would check forums they are your best bet. Could be a faulty air bag unit. Also check the fuse in the fuse box for the system. Hope this helps

@@josuerivera1659 once you ask for the air bag sensor, they'll go by your car brand, I had both replaced under 1/2 hour. I only paid for the sensors since they were easy to replace and in a easy place to see them. I changed both since sooner or later the other will go too. they were filled with snow salt. didn't need to remove nothing since they both are in a reachable place.
