The bolt most certainly carries the weight. Do you have any idea of the double shear strength of a grade 8 bolt of that size? Approximately 20,000 pounds. PER BOLT. The bolt is by far the strongest part of the assembly. Sheesh.

Leave those bolts loose and you'll find out how strong that bolt is. Or grind off that serrated part and unsert that bolt.

Thank you for the rod and sandpaper tip. BTW, the bolt carries all the entire load from the leaf, not the sleeve. Weight transfers from the leaf to the bushing to sleeve to the bolt.

Fluid film vehicle as soon as you buy it,get it done every fall, 2 or 3 hundred bucks, you should never have to deal with a mess like this again, still driving my 04 Ford f 150.

There's definitely a load on the bolt. What you're saying defies physics. The load cannot skip the bolt and mysteriously transfer itself to the bushing. When you tighten the bolt there is some horizontal friction created with then bolt and bushing but the metal inside is so that the bolt does not crush the rubber. You are ignoring vertical and horizontal moment forces and how they work .the rubber is there to absorb the vibrations and movement created by the forces going through the car, metal on metal is not a good thing. Yes the bolt may snap if the bushing is gone but that's due to excessive play. But it's highly unlikely they would manufacture something that weak to hold up your suspension. I suggest taking a course in statics before misinforming people. When these fail you develop excessive noise and clunking

Dude, the shear strength of that bolt is 5 times what that sleeve is. The weight of that truck does sit on that bolt. Make sure your info is accurate.

Excellent Krystian. Thanks for explaining the physics behind the fitting. Very well done. This is a prime example how a small job turns into a big job. Was it difficult locating the correct shackle plate? I know that they sent you the wrong one the first time. There is no substitute for doing your own work. Driving down the road in the future you will have peace of mind knowing exactly what is going on with your truck. It just goes to show you the destructive power of rust over time. I will be undercoating my minivan this late summer with Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protector. Basicly the same as Fluid Film which dries to a wax. Toyota trucks are also notorious for rusting as they were not dipped in the factory. really a disgraceful way to make a product that will be exposed to the elements. There should be a Federal law requiring effective undercoating for cars because it can turn into a deadly situation over time. Total irresponsibility by the auto industry.

You are 100% wrong about what carries the weight and the reason those bolts are tempered are because they carry the weight and can't just shear off, gets the facts right before posting a video!

Yes sort of but a lateral to vert. load are a whole perspective apart. The Leaf spring bracket carries both. That is why the shackle has a heavy carbon Tungsten alloy bolt and a HANGER TOO... He gives a decent perspective of things.. I suggest soaking a NEOPREME shackle in old synthol motor oil... They last forever like that my 99 is going on 10 years now not an issue and I soak the hanger in the shit too.... The Neopreme performance shackles for these trucks are worth every penny...

The bolts provide clamping force only dumbass. All bolts do and are NOT designed for vertical load. If it did why would the bolt be so damn loose in the inner sleeve ??????
