Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Despite the less than pristine window you were dealt with courtesy of SEPTA, I'm AMAZED at the distance (or lack thereof) between several stations. Is it my imagination, or are they spaced approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile apart (at most)?? Patience of Joab... for sure.

John, thank you very much for your kind words. I really appreciate it and it is encouraging to hear from viewers that are enjoying my videos. Your eyes do not deceive you, those SEPTA stations really are that close!! The first time that I ever rode through this section was aboard Amtrak and I was absolutely stunned by the proximity of some of the stations. Especially the portion between Sharon Hill and Prospect Park. Going through there you can literally see the next one or two stations from the one that you are currently at. Most of the stations are .7 miles apart there according to Wikipedia, but Sharon Hill and Folcroft are reportedly the closest at 1/2 mile. I still don't fully understand it, but the stations were built during the PRR era when many people apparently commuted using the stations and maybe didn't have other options. Thanks again for the kind words and for checking in!

Man....just ....man, you just saved my marriage with your awesome railfan view videos, your videos are golden, Pentrex & Berkos videos don't even come close, I'm from New York & all my life I rode trains all the time, I even broke dates to ride trains, I've since retired to Florida which if I see like 3 trains a day on the CSX A Line that's a good day & maybe like 7 per day on FEC, I've been pressuring my wife to relocate back to Long Island so I can ride trains again, she's very close to having me baker acted but with your videos & a Rail Controller with a loco horn, bell & other train sounds software program & streaming Broadcastify AMTRAK DC Union Station I'm good to go, again thanks my friend , you have done a wonderful thing.

Great video! This is exactly the one I'm looking for, I've been searching full ride videos to/from Newark for more than a year... btw I saw that there're a great many SEPTA trains bound for Philly in the first half hour, is it just the normal schedule or that day is different? I saw the express train pulling out from Newark though... Thanks!

This is the equivalent of MARC's northern Penn Line (Baltimore - Wilmington, DE) - the two meet in Wilmington. (The Bear shops (which AMTRAK owns) are used by AMTRAK, MARC, and SEPTA under contract for maintenance.)

Aside from the dirty windows wer you by chance shooting with telephoto lens? I ask as I have had 4 cab rides on the old MU Metroliner and one in an AEM7 and I dont remember the curves in the route being as tight radius as in the video. The dirty window is an embarrassment, never seen the like in any European videos. Regards, Vince author MSTS route NECv4 & Open Rails LIRR

Question how fast can trains on the R2 Wilmington/Newark line go? is it any different than the R7 Trenton line when it comes to speed limits
@acelaphillies
9 жыл бұрын
ploopy523 Good question. In the summer of 2013 the SLV max speed was raised from 90mph to 100mph in all Amtrak territory that has a 100+mph speed limit. So this includes the Wilmington/Newark Line, Trenton Line, and also the Keystone Corridor (Paoli/Thorndale Line).
@ploopy5235
9 жыл бұрын
No, it was 95mph before that test
@HavardCastiglioni
8 жыл бұрын
+ploopy523 To answer your question, it usually goes about 20-30 miles on the track. When it reaches it top speed, it goes about 90-100 miles an hour
@ploopy5235
8 жыл бұрын
Havard Castiglioni you're 7 months late on this conversation sorry buddy, I had the answer from the creator of the video and SEPTA can go 90-100mph on the Keystone Corridor along with the SEPTA R7 Trenton Line, and I've been on the Trenton Line

You have to consider something. the northern part of the mainline (from 30th Street to Trenton was built by one company and the northern part was built by another company. At the time the PRR only owned the line from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. The connecting railway bridge was built to connect the two halves and PRR took control of both halves. The Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad is who built the southern line. They were the ones that laid out the stations, not SEPTA/PRR. At the time the line was built the line was the fastest way into the city. Even though now its obsolete idea it takes a lot of work to cut out a station. they have to get STB approval. (The original line to Wilmington is actually now the Airport Line).

I'm always curious to how a signal knows what to make itself. I mean when 95% of these signals were installed their wasn't a such thing as a computer. what is even the point of having a station every 10-50 feet? why is the idiot conductor announcing the stops? the $3 million car can do itself.
@brunoignaciogi
6 жыл бұрын
you don't need a modern computer to run a signaling interlocking. rather relays and mechanical lockings where used back in the day every piece of track (called a "block"), has electricity passed around it's length to check if a train is present, if so, continuity will be shunted, trough the passing of axles that makes a short circuit, closing a semaphore guarding said block. (lack of electricity will make the system fail safe, as is unable to prove an empty track) for every block that has been proven, you can make a multi aspect signaling. [Train 1]=====>Green>=======>Yellow>=======>Red>===[Train 2]. I addition the PRR installed in 1930 devices in tracks that sends pulsing codes so that trains can capture that and display what signal aspect comes next.

All the commuter railroads along the NEC are getting them - - the only exception MAY be VRE. I have never traveled north of the BTC on SEPTA - only on AMTRAK. My last trip to the BTC was not even by rail, but for a different sort of "pit stop*. (The BTC is off DE 4, and has its own exit off Interstate 95 in Wilmington proper - the is a gas station there. The only times I was there was to catch AMTRAK - which is true n anywhne from north of WIlmington DE to Chester, PA - as AMTRAK does not stop anywhere between the BTC and 30th Street Station.
