You can almost get fields into octane by using vertex maps and making octane read the float value of the vertex map that is painted by the fields.
@SilverwingVFX

Very true! Thank you for mentioning it! I was thinking if I should mention it but left it out. It would be nice if it would be translated in to pixel accurate shading though since relying on vertex info is really depended on the vertex density of your object.

@@SilverwingVFX Thank you very much for the LOD trick using Z-Depth node, previously I had to blend landscape using extremely high poly count mesh and vertex maps with fields enabled to get precise look, which is very resource hungry, this method however will help counter that problem with ease, woohoooo

Can u make tutorial about large scale scene in cinema and octane please, many problem and scratch lines in render on large scale
@SilverwingVFX

Thank you very much for your suggestion. As you know me, I am a "small scene guy" but I will definitely pen it down. May I ask what kind of large scale scenes you are working on and what kind of problems you run into? Cheers

@@eliprenten7066 yes , but in octane viewer everything’s good , but in c4d render queue something strange happen, some thing like rendering bad low poly

If using fields with something like a high udim asset, would this act as a texture LOD if I were to make a field clip to camera frustum? I might do some testing incase something like that isn't already known, could be nice to scale up udim texture based on distance if it keeps the asset less heavy and the vram requirement down.

Thank you very much for your comment. If I understand it correctly what you have in mind, I think this is not possible unfortunately. The way the shader works is that Octane always holds available all textures that are eventually used in the shader. There are techniques like mip mapping or tile based textures (Arnold TX) that only load the resolution and or region that is needed for the sampling. Unfortunately Octane has nothing of that implemented yet. It is planned with "Meshlets" texture- and geometry- streaming. So the only way to get texture relieve is actually by using e.g. C4Ds LOD kzitem.info/news/bejne/xGhvk4mjraqXoIo or python and check objects distance from the camera and then switch out the texture path on those by the script.

Hey hey, great to hear you liked it! I hit a bit of a wall with the opal shader unfortunately 😇 But I will try to engineer my way out of it. I just need some time to do more research.
