Once you have laid down the parks it is important to make sure your roads are at an exact 90 degree angel. Since the space between buildings is minimal, the slightest inward curve will mess up the grid and prevent one side from building larger buildings. If you want to be sure, line both sides of the block with parks. If both sides fit in you know you did it right.

I have found that if you go to exactly the end of the second park to start the second road, you will NOT get back to back high density. One side will be stuck with med density. You need to leave just a little bit extra room to ensure you get back to back. Excellent idea, though. Thanks for sharing.

Just playing around with this technique tonight and I found (for me with the expansion) that the distance you need is as close to 2174§ as you can get. Your mileage may vary, but that gave me the width of 2 tree rows in a row like he used in the video. And I agree with the non-abusive voices in the comments that say that sometimes having the extra space between the roads for a park between high density blocks does WONDERS for keeping the Sims happy.
@TigerXGame
11 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that if the road isn't a perfect 90 degree angle compared to the park the zone won't have enough room for high density (because a tiny corner is occupied by road). You can make sure that roads are perfect 90 degree roads you can hold shift while drawing them.

With square blocks you can set up one, then create more roads using the square road tool (hold shift to lock it square) and quickly replicate the blocks. I like it. It isn't really necessary to have high density roads on all four sides, just the 2 opposing sides the buildings will front. So if you make the other 2 streets low density then you will get stop signs instead of lights, which I would think will help traffic quite a bit.

You;ll see it in your video where 3 of them are HD and on the block that's left there are 3 small strips of houses equally divided. That's the size of each cursor block. You're right, it tend to change when there are things around the end of the road. Try it with a road long enough so that the cursor doesn't have anything to "snap" into. I'm not 100% sure. But I'm trying it right now. Thanks for the tip BTW.

I knew about the use of tree-lines. But people should consider using the High Density Road guide-lines to make room for placing of megatowers. This will mean jumping 1 extra line out - which exactly should allow space for a megatower width. Two tree-lines wont have anough space.

I watched this video years ago but I really didn't make well laid down cities, they were pretty random. For some reason I got back to the game this couple of weeks ago. Came back to this video and got a my first 500k pop city. It might not be a lot to many of you but someone that has been building barely 100k cities over and over again it's a dream come true. I can't seem to be able to push it to over 550k. There were times that I got stuck in the past specificaly at around 250k where my population was frozen there but suddenly exploded to 400k but I have been legit stuck there at 550k. The people in the city just don't want a bigger house I guess lol. Any tips?

Industry also needs hapiness to grow, but instead they get happiness from shipping their freight somewhere, doesn't matter where. They will ship to local commercial buildings first and then to the region through your trade depot. Commercial buildings get happiness from shoppers and residential gets happiness from shopping and visiting parks.

I think that with 150k people in the city your road system will get stuck regardless of the layout. Especially with that single access point most cities have. But it's certainly good advice. Mixing R and C as much as possible does seem to reduce traffic.

Can someone help me? This doesn't seems to work for me. I suspect it's due to the gradient of the ground I'm building at. Here's the thing. If the gradient is not flat, you have to leave a gap in between the 2 back to back buildings, the higher the gradient, the bigger the gap. This is because, when there's a gradient, the bottom of the building seems to require more space.

Thanks for the video it's very helpful. Maybe I can give you an extra tip. If you leave enough space to blocks you can build a plazas which is excatly same depth of high density so you can easily increase land values and get quickly high density buildings. But there is a bug or something I guess. I had over 80k population before plop a plazas instead of tree rows. When I done that. I lost Over 50k population. I upgraded almost every medium density buildings to high density but population is gone

Why stop at 2 back to back high density with another 2 back to back with the road going around all four building. Why not do the back to back method like you showed so buildings are facing oposite ways but instead of back to back 2 times having a Square of 4 back to back a row of 4 or something even 5then retangular road around making 8-10 high density leaving less streets and the streets the front doors face would have 4-5 buildings per block instead of 2 buildings facing each way.

I don't mind the math or the cerebral aspect of the game but the small map sizes are a huge disappointment!
@VirginMary1.0
6 жыл бұрын
Let me disagree and explain myself since you seem to be cerebral like me! Map is huge! Just look it how it was built! You have 4 cities connected to each others via great work! (Even putted some simcity tips at the end and explained why they cant make you load all as 1 at the very end!) (As you read, you can check google map to see how even highway connections are relevant between locations) Lets compare a MAP/region to New York! You have New York City (Titan Gorge or some other map) In New York City you have 5 main area and a ton of location (Titan Gorge has 4 and 16 location): 1. Manhattan (Manhattan Island, Marble Hill and its smaller islands) Manhattan is the most densely populated borough of New York City, its economic and administrative center, and its historical birthplace. Locally it is often referred to simply as The City. 2. Brooklyn (Northwestern Brooklyn, Central Brooklyn, Southern Brooklyn, etc...) Has played a major role in various aspects of American culture including literature, cinema, and theater. Hosts the world-renowned Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the second largest public art collection in the United States, housed in the Brooklyn Museum. 3. Queens (Northwestern Queens, The Rockaways, etc..) Queens has the most diversified economy of the five boroughs of New York City. It is home to JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. These airports are among the world's busiest, causing the airspace above Queens to be the most congested in America. 4. The Bronx (West Bronx, East Bronx, Islands) Education in the Bronx is provided by a large number of public and private institutions, many of which draw students who live beyond the Bronx. The New York City Department of Education manages public noncharter schools in the borough. 5. Staten Island (Arlington, Richmondtown, Greenridge, etc) Is home to a large and diverse population of wildlife. Wildlife found on Staten Island include white tailed deer, as well as hundreds of species of birds Includes thousands of acres of federal, state, and local park land, including the "greenbelt" and "blue belt" park systems and the Gateway National Recreation Area in addition to hundreds of acres of private wooded areas. This game is a lot more complete then many would claim and work in a lot more complex way that people can imagine or EA ever care to spend money on explaining... Maxis used to tell their players they didnt know how to play pre EA time even if games like sim city 2000 had a book of close to 200 pages trying to explain the game! Here a few things I know 95% of this community never realized and could be useful to someone like you: (Lets start with only street stuff) 1. Avenue and streets do not have same CAR SPEED. 2. Avenue does not allow someone to cross over with its car if his house, shop, freight drop or what not is on his left! A terrible thing that can make a sim drive 3 times more because he has to go 15 more blocks to U-turn and come back to his home. 3. The many connections of road give many possible result into stops or traffic light! 4. Medium avenue, medium road and high density road all handle the same amount of traffic. The medium avenue and high density road have a higher speed limit while the medium avenue has the limitation of point 2! 5. A medium density road will not create a stop light because it cross lower density road. Very useful for service who do not get much traffic and would rather have just a 3 way stop sign! 6. A dirt road will always use a stop sign even when crossing a STREETCAR AVENUE! 7. a low density street will always have a stop sign on any road and up to high density avenue. (Lets do a last few non road related) 8. The so called useless French Police station DOES NOT raise land wealth! Making it perfect for a low wealth area! 9. Vu Tower is a shop, accept freight and can make industrial tech up faster! (Even more when he drive around!) 10. Educated and level of education is NOT the same thing as many seem to claim. A High school only area vs a college only vs a Uni only vs a everything show this quite well. I can run a OMEGACO CITY using 1 high school 4 college and 1 Uni using ONLY 1 police dep. (Not precinct!), 3 fire copter and 1 hospital using only 1 patient room! Yes, the proper education save money AND space in the end! 11. Maxis man can deal with Hazmat fire! He can be used like batman! Leave his building closed, once you need him you turn the lights up and ask him to perform his task! once he his done you can power down his building. 12. With proper road system you can do like me and run a 400k pop omegaco city 100% everything using no recycling and only 1 garbage dump that still stay empty! (On proper road system, I never even get to 30-40 tons accumulated in the first 2-3 hour! Education is also KEY here.) 13. Adding too many service vehicle is a good way to cause traffic and slow down the service in complete irony! 14. Wellness van and Ground scrubber are very useful! 15. Gov. buildings are like parks that cannot have homeless in them! They make people happy on a much larger radius and also have impact on surrounding citizens Wealth! Have fun and I hope it helped! N.B. Just try to mod that extend borders! Fill the map and see how the game end up lagging as hell because SimCity Sims DO something compared to other paint job games. (Forget that its bugged as hell and will screen wealth map, and the game overall! just uninstall it after!) P.S. This game is completely misunderstood by a generation of gamers that have no clue what to do... I could of went on for at least another50+ tips that 95% people have no clue about. After all, if most stopped thinking at "Avenues are better" and the only counter argument others seem to know is that road take less space.... How hard can it be to outthink them ?
