the 7018's get a little bit of glass on the end of them so usually i would take them out of the stinger and i would run a file across the glass tip

In the time I spent working in shipyards and building pipelines as a young guy I've probably run many hundreds of pounds of 7018 and I've never once filed the end of one. Of course in those jobs you ran it to a stub far more often than not. I can imagine the looks on the faces of some of my old foremen if they saw me take a half stick of 7018 out of a stinger and file the end down. Of course, that was production welding where time was more valuable than a half a stick of rod.

@@3rdpig that makes sense. Different environment, different situations, different ways of doing things. Thats just how i learned or flicking it when it gets the red glow so its clean for next time :)

Maybe Project Farm got a defective unit, I've seen plenty of these mini inverters being reviewed and I think PF one was the only one I've seen fail like that. I'd still buy one though.

I just got this machine and we were having the same problem striking the arc. We fiddled with everything and finally started getting it to work before it blew the fuse (30a). Does it function better as a tig welder?

Follow up question: what settings would you recommend to run it on? Just looking to use it for craft/hobby till i get some experience and can afford a better one.

I've never used it as a TIG, but to be honest, for a good TIG machine you need high frequency start, gas control built into the machine and, if you want to weld aluminum, AC output. This machine has none of those. Can it be done? Sure, for sheet steel, using a scratch start and a torch with a manual gas valve, it will work. But TBH, this machines best use is as a portable machine for light stick welding jobs on steel. As far as settings for stick welding are concerned, make sure you have it set so it reads 120 Amps turned all the way up (I outlined how to do that in my original review video) turn Hot Start and Arc Force all the way up then set the amperage to what's proper for the type of rod and thickness of material you're welding. I welded at home for years on a machine no better than this one. Once you get a good feel for starting the arc and the proper rod for the job, it will work fine for small jobs.

Seems like a good unit I'll stick with my Harbor Freight titanium 225

If I had a Titanium 225 I'd probably stick with that too. The little Simder welder isn't bad, in fact it's pretty decent considering it's price and it's tiny size, but it's not a machine that's good for regular use. At least IMO.

How do I stop from the power going out I bought a generator since my house electricity wasn’t capable of running the machine and the generator seems to do the same
@3rdpig

This machine really needs a 30 amp circuit if you're on 110/120 volts or a 20 amp circuit on 220/240. If Anything less and you'll pop the breaker if you turn the machine up past about 80 or 90 amps (around 150 on the front panel). So look at the breaker on your house or generator and make sure it meets what I said above, or just start turning the machine down until it stop popping the breaker.
