Listen I'm Irish, and Irish people have our own deep mixed feelings about the Monarchy and the British Empire. I have hatred for the actions of the British military in Northern Ireland and going back further for hundreds of years the British killed, raped, looted and pillaged my country north and south. Millions of my ancestors and country folk died in the famine when the British took our crops and denied us rations when there was plenty of food available. Those atrocities were not all during Queen Elizabeth's reign but the ones that were could have been condemned and apologized for by Her Majesty but she never did., but then on the flip side she was wonderful when it came to bringing both sides together to create a new peaceful future where we can grow a new respectful inclusive society that fights for each other instead of against each other. I think Queen Elizabeth earned huge respect and admiration from the Irish Nation when during her state visit a few years ago she made a speech during a dinner banquet and instead of reading it all in English she chose to use our Irish Native language to read a few paragraphs and the respect and admiration was earned because all Irish people know how hard it is to firstly learn and then even harder to speak it. So to bring it all together I'd say that when the queen died I was saddened because she dedicated her life to service and sacrifice and in that sense she was a great woman, but as I explained she had some huge flaws and failings when it comes to my country so I could understand an Irish person voicing a negative opinion about her among all the praise she has received. Trevor's opinion and statement is also a valid one. The people of Britain and people around the world who loved, admired and adored the Queen have every right to show their love and affection and their grief and their sorrow at her passing but the British empire have committed horrific atrocities and abuses throughout their colonies and elsewhere and the Queen as the figurehead and symbol of the Empire has so much anger and vitriol aimed at her and rightfully so. She has never come out and apologized for the horrific abuses committed by the British Empire throughout the years and because of that she is hated in some parts of the world. The British people can't expect the people from these places to mourn and grieve alongside them. Millions of people would've been only too happy to see her die. So Trevor being a black man who has suffered racial abuse throughout his life in his own country has every right to voice his opinion just as much as someone who loves and mourns the Queen does. You can't ask people to wait a few weeks to feel their emotions. Nobody should be judged, questioned, viewed differently or cancelled for expressing their personal opinions and emotions.👍

I am so touched by what you wrote it was fair, deep and honest. You get back yours to the point Irish people I'll treat black, and it was you and us in the struggle. @@icebless3136 you're very welcome. I'm not sure whether you know this but for a very long long time Irish people weren't considered White. There were signs put up all over Britain that read No Dogs, No Blacks and No Irish. Other signs and posters across some parts of America, big cities especially New York read No Irish Need Apply or No Irish Wanted. There was huge discrimination aimed at innocent Irish and Black people throughout the years. I would never try to compare the struggles both groups faced compared to each other but I do think it helped both groups to find a level of respect and empathy for each other down through the years.

If a white celebrity had posted such remarks against a black head of state. We know that person would be treated more harshly by the media these days. He's a racist in his subconscious mind and it comes out, I would suggest that there are very few people that are not racist in some way shape or form. Only people that are truly enlightened actually acknowledge it, own it and then go about changing it. A childs mind is moulded by there surroundings, people, places and things. What you put in they carry for the rest of their life without realising it themselves. We will notice but they won't as they are just being themselves. It makes me very suspicious that so many of them would continue to tell others how tough they have it instead of the more positive “look at what I’ve achieved, you can too” message that would be far more helpful and inspiring. The Race Relations Act 1965 was the first piece of legislation in the UK to address the prohibition of racial discrimination and followed previously unsuccessful bills. The Act banned racial discrimination in public places and made the promotion of hatred on the grounds of ‘colour, race, or ethnic or national origins' an offence. The Bill received Royal Assent on 8 November 1965, and came into force a month later on 8 December 1965.
