"No woman is happy with abortion [...], it will always be a tragedy," said Simone Veil on November 26, 1974 in the National Assembly. The health minister defended, in a famous speech, the reform of the law on abortion, to decriminalize abortion. She changed the perspectives of the debate by advancing this "woman's conviction" in front of an "assembly composed almost exclusively of men". Simone Veil died Friday, June 30, 2017 at the age of 89 years.
