Many of your 90's up Full Size Trucks and SUV's(GM, Ford and Dodge/Ram) have provisions for dual battery setups but do not come equipped with 2 batteries. If you can overkill your electrical, you'll only be maximizing the output of everything installed that needs that power.
Lets take advantage of that open space and drop a battery in there! Adding a 2nd battery does not add more "power" but it does add extra protection from heavy voltage drop if you have a stock alternator or high amperage additions that exceed your alternators capabilities(stock or higher output).
With the addition of a larger battery bank, the amperage "hit" is absorbed much easier and in essence will allow your alternator to work LESS as it does not need to be constantly filling up the large loss from just one battery. In some cases, adding many MANY batteries can even offset the need for an upgraded alternator, albeit at the cost of space and weight(AGM batteries).
There really is NO drawback to dual batteries besides of course weight. So if your vehicle has a spot for a 2nd battery, take advantage of it!
