A great spinal decompression exercise for the lower back. A great stretch to relieve back pain, stiffness in the back, tight back muscles, and of course, disc protrusions (slipped discs) and nerve compression issues.
Note that this is effective for people with back pain that prefer forward bending. For example, those who find that when your back hurts, having a slight bend forward relieves the pain. Or for those who find it painful to stand straight / upright. Or those who prefer to sleep curled up in a ball (foetal position).
Also, known as a prayer stretch or childs pose.
