Only do this technique if u know it will blow through the metal. The more back and fourth or looping or some other motion u do apart from the straight pull/push motion, the weld will penetrate less. I guess if u guys really wanna do this, weld on a higher setting so that u can still get good penetration.

Definitely, this is how I do incerts on ships and it works perfectly on dual shield fluxcore 045/052 wire. I don't know what the hell some of these guys are talking about. All welders don't use the same techniques lol. If you are a first class welder you can weld however you want and get good results. It's easy just read that puddle. I passed all my bend tests whipping especially up and down as I travel along. Shipyards don't care how you weld a joint as long as it's welded properly. If you hate whipping you just hate whipping. I'm glad I never worked on a job that requires me to use a mandatory technique. I probably would have turned it down knowing me because I certainly know my shit with that gun or a stick.

Ive never understood why ppl think to use a “forward, back and pause” method for short arc mig🤷🏻♂️ that will get u screwed a lot of time in any kind of test(bend or x-ray)…….. I was taught the “forward then pause” method to make sure you are always putting filler metal onto base metal and not running the chance of having cold lap in front of you after you’ve jumped backward……. Forward, back then pause works great for 6010 stick especially on some open root welds but not so much on short arc not filler welds

@januarylong1107 you usually hear the terms MIG or MAG when referring to short-circuit arc welding. Some just say MIG, but with the addition of CO2, which is not a Nobel (non-reactive, inert) gas, they prefer using MAG. As far as spray, no. It's not a spray transfer method.
