Thanks so much Jamie- for sharing all these chunks of music that are absolutely classic. Working 40 hrs+ a week I have not as much time as I want to practice but you put so many things out there that I think I might make a week if it out of the week just to go to your videos. Scoops, bends, growls and all that is something I really want to get into - Thank you so much.

Great videos Jamie, my sax (alto) had been up in my mothers loft since I was in my mid teens, not played in around 18 years and I was still very much a novice back then. Recently started trying to learn again through various youtube tutorials on the basics. But your vids have been awesome for picking a couple of my favourite sax solos (in a fashion). Really struggling to get that final note out at the end even if/when I get the fingering correct, any tips?

Ok a great tenor sax solos that I grew up loving, there were many on this album but I’ll pick. Johnny Colla’s solo on The Heart of Rock n Roll from Huey Lewis and the News sports album. Shame I don’t have a tenor or I would be trying this today. Don’t think it would sound quite right on alto. : Martin

jazzm45 - thanks for your comment Martin. I think it’ll sound alright on alto if you growl it up. “Only” a double B instead of double E at the end too! 😂

I’m a new player. The first few note is VERY close to the sax hook in “Tender Years” by John Cafferty Band in the Eddie and the Cruisers soundtrack... check it out. Love this lesson. I’ll work on it. Not sure if I’ll get the altissimo note though... LOL thank you Jamie

@@GetYourSaxTogether I get more than an octave of easy altissimo fingerings with the palm keys which can overblow a 6th, 9th, augmented 11th and more. Lenny Pickett demonstrates some of this in this clinic: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xX2Hv3d9f513nG0

Super-Pato - I’ve got no plans to cover that song, but I’ve checked it out. I can’t hear anything particularly unusual about the sax on it? To me it seems to be a straight forward funky, poppy, slightly smooth jazz ish alto sax sound? Without hearing you I can’t say how to point you in the right direction other than developing your tone in general with long notes and harmonics practice. Try this video for tone?
