To think the singer, Mick Hucknall, wrote this song when he was 17. Such introspective writing from one so young.

Wow Dani never heard of this song? Came out when I was in middle school. Was on the radio all the time back then. Haven't heard it in forever. Reminds me of going to school in the morning. My mom would be playing the type of station that'd play this song in her big conversion van. My 10 lb black poodle would be along for the ride. I use to tap on the window after getting out and closing the door and he'd go nuts and bark and bite at the window. One time, he jumped out before me, turned around and barked at me nonstop. He wouldn't let me out. All the kids were looking back at me like what the...? I had to get to class meanwhile this maniac is getting his revenge. My mom laughed about that one for years. I still have a picture of the two of them together. That's what this song brings back memories of. Dani really nailed it. It does bring back memories and emotions. I'm actually writing a joke about that dog for my stand up. Meanwhile, as I'm typing this my "present day dog" is whining/whimpering because she wants a bite of my banana nut bread. Good selection/recommendation.

You're reaction was good. To me, the most outstanding thing to notice in this song, is the beautiful voice. Closely followed by the music itself. Finally, the lyrics. You mostly dealt with the lyrics. This guy is considered one of the best singers by many. He wrote this song when he was still in high school. Discussing the lyrics is fine, just keep in mind, most people you're talking to have heard the song many times. We know the lyrics. But the voice and the music are always new.

Hi, Dani. I saw your reaction to Glen Frey's song and would like to suggest another of his hits, "The One You Love". There's some great sax in it (and who doesn't love great sax?) I think you'd love it. It's a very slow sentimental song, like this one.

@@DaniAtkinson Thanks for considering my request and "Goodbye Girl" is one of my favorite songs from David Gates who is the former lead singer of the '70's band Bread. They also have alot of great relaxing and calming slow ballad songs from the early '70's . You would enjoy the band Bread since they have several great songs.

I can related well to this song, and it's very sad. My baby brother it's in this relationship for 15 years with two kids; his wife left him 2 or 3 months at a times to stay with her rich mother outside US. Things did not get any better, but he did not want to end the relationship and hope that one day his wife would remembered all the best times, hard times and sad times that they were spent together. I want send this song to him, but afraid he will be offended.
