Hi, I’m Abram from 30 Day Singer and this is how to Sing Better in a Day.
While singing masterfully does take time and determination, there are a few important facts about the voice that can help us start singing better in just a single day of practice.
1) Lower Abdominal Support
The first fact is about where most of our vocal energy comes from and where it shouldn't come from. The simple answer is that our power source is from our lower abdominal muscles and not our throat. I find singing short detached notes called staccatos as a great way to check in with this aspect of the voice and see if you are doing this correctly.
Just keep your mouth open in whatever vowel shape you are singing, then breathe low into your belly. Just before you’re about to sing, allow your abdominal muscles to drop down and gently engage out. As you go higher this engagement will intensify.
You may notice that your head and neck tries to move as you sing up to the higher note. Try to keep this area still and continue engaging down into your lower body. Let’s give it a shot as the higher we go the more likely it is for this to happen.
2) Straw Resonance
Another great way to improve your voice very quickly is to sing with a straw. Singing with a straw also helps to relax our throat muscles and improves our connection to our lower body support. The other thing it does is help our vocal muscles stay stable by providing extra pressure from the resonance it produces. It may feel more narrow, but it's actually helping us relax our internal throat muscles!
