The Apostle John and Mary, the mother of Jesus, lived here. After the sixth century, the city fell into decline due to the silting up of the river port, and today it is the second largest city in Turkey.
Ephesus Theater The largest theater in Asia Minor with 24,000 seats, which is still in good standing today. It was built in 98-117 AD. Nowadays, some of the local festivals are held here. It was here that Paul and his companions in travel were rushed together into the theater and swept into the theatre to face the crowds (Acts 19:29). Because the word of the Lord was greatly flourishing, and because of the disturbance caused by this word, Paul wanted to go to the people in the theatre, but the disciples would not allow him to go. After the chaos, Paul traveled to Macedonia.
