"Singalikas of Uttara Kannada"
The Lion Tailed Macaque is an old world Primate which is endemic to the Western Ghats of India. They inhabit the thick evergreen forests. Habitat Destruction, Collection of NTFP (Non Timber Forest Produce) and habitat fragmentation being the major threats for the primates, it is now considered as an Endangered Species by IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature)
These primates are one of the specialties of Honnavar Division and this is our sincere effort to throw light on this not so Well-Known but endangered species which is a flagship species.
We hope that this work reaches more number of people and the right message is spread towards the conservation of Lion Tailed Macaques.
Our heartfelt thanks to Karnataka Forest Department and the staff of Honnavar Division for supporting us throughout this project.
Our special thanks to Mr. Vasanth Reddy K.V, I.F.S., Deputy Conservator of Forests, Honnavar Division, for being a great guide and a mentor.
We dedicate this project to Late. Sri Manikandan, I.F.S., who was an efficient officer and a great wildlife warrior.
