Singapore's concept of meritocracy remains too narrow and it needs to refresh its mindset about schools and grades, said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong in Parliament on Monday (Apr 17). "Many feel caught in a rat race from a young age - under pressure to get the best grades, get into what they perceive to be the best schools, so they can get the best university places," said Mr Wong, who is expected to be Singapore's next Prime Minister.
