Singaporeans will head to the polls on Sep 1 to vote for a new President, if more than one person qualifies to run for the highest office in the country. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong issued the Writ of Election today, with Nomination Day set on Aug 22. If there is only one eligible candidate, the person will be declared the President on Nomination Day. Applications to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility will close five days after the Writ of Election is issued. The Presidential Elections Committee will have up to 10 days to assess the applications.
