This video gave me a lot to imagine: What if Malaysia had not rejected Singapore? Surely LKY would do all he can to work his way up, given how ambitious he was, and if he eventually paved his way to becoming PM of Malaysia, would the latter be a lot better than now? LKY was a ferociously intelligent man. Who knows what he could do to snatch political rights away from UMNO’s very own hands, and dominate Malaysia? And if he did so, would Malaysia be a lot stronger than she is right now? There are too many questions that cannot be answered, and history is as it is, nothing can be done to change it. But perhaps part of me wants to see another possible turnout of this event, where Singapore had not separated from Malaysia in an alternate universe, and they both exist together as one formidable country in harmony. How’d wonderful that would have sounded, if history didn’t pan out this way. Note: I’m fully aware that Singapore merging with Malaysia might not actually be a good idea, given the racial disagreements and riots at that time, but I’m willing to hold on to the impossible future where Singapore and Malaysia are one, in the suburbs of my dreams.

Indeed, i do highly agree with you. You ( Singaporeans ) are very lucky to be out from Malaysia, otherwise it will end up like my home country Sarawak and also Sabah. The central government had lied to us for the past 51 years and most of our resources had been harvested and export it to the west side of Malaysia and a very high number of poverty in Sarawak and our income is much lower than the Malayan people. Now we realized that we wanted to secede from that country and to be independent right now we are signing for a petition for referendum.

May I say as a Malaysian Chinese, Singapore is a really heart warming story. Thus most of my childhood i spent in Malaysia I also enjoyed that country. Anyway Malaysian Government has a very complicated structure embodied till this very day and despite how the citizens try to unify and identify this to countries as family, the history haunts us. This goes for anyone who had faced rejection, keep working hard. Keep achieving and don't regret being an outcast. I live in Australia at the moment so uncovering the Malaysian/Singaporean history is like tracing an ugly genealogy. Glad that Singapore is what it is today and some of my friends living there are enjoying their lives because of this news. But people walk slower in Malaysia, more free time to do own things, more tiime in the coffee shops etc. Also we have more time to indulge in our hobbies, Suicide rate is also very low. The world today sorely misses Lee Kuan Yew so much. He's such a wonderful example of genuine leadership where he is capable of showing emotion without either being paid to do so or without acting. As a Filipino I find it sad that my own people do not look up to this man. Rodrigo Duterte the current President of the Philippines as I have observed, his leadership is somewhat patterned with Mr. Lee's or has some sort of similarity. I have mad respect for Mr. Lee and yes, Singapore is a beautiful and well-managed country because I did live there for at least 4 years when I was a kid. @BrainstormerXV Exactly. I absolutely agree with you. Singapore transformed into a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY with such credibility that the US, China, India, Arab Emirates look to LKY and our govt for views on the region. They likened us to our ppl's hardwork and discipline. Count our blessings that this turned in Singapore's favour. We were practically 'left to die' but Singaporeans survived with our wit and grit. .. to those green-eyed monsters' comments. We know where you're coming from.

@urchard are u working in malaysia or somewhere else? i'm being fair here as im working in the finance industry i have met quite a number of prominent businessmen. Whether Chinese or Malay or Indian, they all 'Lari Tax' as we like to say here in Malaysia. Majority of tax is paid by Petronas as Royalties as well. But if you really get your facts right from the inside not the newspapers these are not the actual things happening. All lari due to lousy corrupt government officials.

Not all "parting" are bad although its hurtful. Glad our "Parting" work out well if not , maybe we Singaporean would be suffering under the Malaysians whos interest is only their own interest. Compare us n them now, we see the vast difference. Not marginal difference but a vast difference. We may not be perfect but we are way ahead of them.

To all the haters who say Malaysia is stupid (including Malaysian themselves), let me tell you something, Tunku actually made a very wise decision, if Malaysia does not separate Singapore immediately, the British will come back and "solve" the dispute by backing Singapore militarily, and Malaysia will lose the war within 6 days. Basically, Malaysia will become the second Palestine.

To the Singaporean haters and Malaysian haters....Singapore and Malaysia have been two separate independent countries for 46 years now, so get over it...!! Singapore has it's qualities and attractions and so too, Malaysia. Both countries have warts and many of them are right here. I am a Singaporean, I am proud to be a Singaporean but I do love Malaysia and Malaysians too. Thankfully, the majority of Singaporeans and Malaysians share my views. Soul Yuchen Yep. LKY cried in the meeting reminded me of Hashirama being very emotional during the kage summit where they discuss the future of the villages. Also, Madara (PM of Malaysia) does not want anything to do with Hashimara (LKY) as both have different ideologies, left the village similar to how the pm of Malaysia said he decided to part due to different ideologies. Without Madara (PM of Malaysia), Hashimara (LKY) continue to built up the village (Singapore) into a better place than it was.

I don't see Malaysia's leaders saying "no" to their usual corrupt cut of national revenue. I also don't see how Malaysia could do without the cleaned treated water that Singapore sells back for consumption.. you will be able to flush the toilet but not sure about Malaysians drinking from the toilet bowl. Finally it's a legal contract. Breach could invoke military action and somehow I don't think Najib's broken submarine would be much of a deterrent. So there is definitely an opportunity to insult Singapore, but that would invite self-infliction to Malaysia. Nothwithstanding the fact that Singapore Malaysia has never been to war, I am unsure if Malaysia wants to see itself inevitably humiliated in a military conflict over water.

SINGAPORE was named "Singapura" after an ancient sanskrit name - SIMHA PURA which those two words means "Kota Singa or Lion City"..the true nounce r "Singa-po-re" that spelled "Singapura" with modern malay spelling.. Old days, the colonist miss-spelled old spelling "Singapore" and nounce it "Singa-pore" like this day :)
