Please see part 2 at • Singapore WB Sea Eagle...
Our WBSE parents are slowly training the seaglets to snatch their own food, and eventually eat from branches. Despite that, our seaglets are well fed! You can see their massive crops & lack of fighting over food.
You can see the parents perch together and thus determine who is Dad (on the right) & Mum (on the left) by looking at the size. Female adult WBSEs can be up to 20% larger than males. (singapore.biodiversity.online...)
For our foreign friends: WBSE honking is very loud - loud enough that we can hear them from 150 meters away and over a busy expressway too. Every local resident in these few blocks knows about our WBSEs simply by hearing the honking. There are some excellent examples of WBSE honking taken by others:
• White-bellied Sea Eagl... 0:40
• White Bellied Sea Eagl...
Highlights:
0:00 Mum brought food (appears to be fish) to nest and self feeds
4:30 Dad flies off
6:00 Seaglet 1 jumps to nest and tries to snatch some bites, parent does not appear to share. Likely, the parent is trying to teach the seaglets to snatch food from themselves.
9:50 Seaglet 2 jumps on the nest and also tries to snatch some bites.
11:20 Seaglet 1 jumps back to it's branch above the nest. Seaglet 2 continues to try snatching bites.
12:30 Seaglet 1 jumps to another branch near the nest
23:30 Seaglet 2 jumps to branch above nest
24:30 Dad returns & self feeds. Food is likely a fish.
26:10 Mum flies off & lands at it's favorite lepak branch.
40:00 Dad flies off branch, flies 1 round then goes to nest carrying fish. Seaglet 2 sees this & immediately jumps back down to nest. Must be a hungry seaglet.
42:25 Dad jumps to branch, view blocked by leaves
42:30 Seaglet 1 sees Dad jump off nest, flies over to branch above nest
42:50 Seaglet 1 jumps onto nest, Seaglet 2 gives way to Seaglet 1 without fighting to keep the fish. Why?
43:30 Dad joins Mum on lepak branch. They obviously enjoy each other's company.
48:00 Seaglet 1 jumps up to branch above nest, Seaglet 2 resumes eating
53:00 Seaglet 1 Poop Shoot & flies to another branch
59:20 Honking duet by parents.
1:04:00 Seaglet 2 jumps up to branch above nest
1:17:10 Honking duet by parents.
1:17:20 Seaglet 2 flies and perches near Seaglet 1
1:31:20 Honking duet by parents.
Our Friends of Bedok North WBSE group would like to thank the residents of Bedok North HDB Block 100 for allowing us to use their corridor to record our WBSE nest. We have censored out the audio betwen 4:00-9:45 and 1:02:00-1:15:00 to protect the privacy of local residents who asked questions about our WBSEs.
Thank you for watching!
