Watching you disassemble the 15 gave me more understanding of the parts that make the machine. Thanks a lot.

Fascinating tear-down - I was mesmerised every minute and you did most of it in one take (only cutting away to spare us some of the harsh words you had for that pin)! For a moment there, though, I thought I must have got the wrong Bob and Sunday Morning Quickie... But no - this is the right channel. So who are you and what have you done with Bob? Bob would've fired that thread-cuttter straight into the trash can and you... You put it in the cutlery tray! ;-) Seriously though - I'm amazed how you can go through a tear-down like that - it's like watching a complicated choreographed dance. I'm looking forward to when you put her back together (or at least seeing how she scrubs up - that is going to be a very impressive set of "before" and "after" pics. Speaking of which - thank you so much Bob for showing how that little Model 20 scrubbed up too! It was a lot of fun to work on - completely disassembled it out only had about 3 dozen parts including the main body. I could lay all the parts out with plenty of space to spare on a couple of kitchen paper towels. When I put her back together and she sewed that gorgeous seam, skipping along as happily as you please I couldn't get the grin of my face. :-) I like to imagine how a little girl back during WW1, when they started making these, would have felt if she got one of these...

@@leekro1 Thank you Lee - I must still have a big kid living inside of me because every now and then I keep going over to her and stitching a little seam for no reason except it is such fun. In other words - playing like a kid!! I had read somewhere that for them to stitch really well the looper must be very smooth with no burrs or nicks - so I made sure to take extra care polishing everything in that area. :-)

I love to watch this tear down even if I would not try it. I do have a better understanding of how things work and feel more at ease with the parts I remove and clean.

I love watching you with these machines.. I have just been gifted a 1922/23 singer 15 that needs repair.... so far I have cleaned it thoroughly. The drive wheel goes around freely but doesn't seem to engage the drive shaft. The clutch and washer seem to be working fine. My dexterity isn't great so I am cautious about removing something I may not be able to fix back.... any ideas of what could be wrong. These machines were certainly built to last.

Another question, so was the machine working fine mechanical ? The machine looks good cosmetically, other than that "yucky" stuff that has built up over the years... what was he/she requesting, a complete and thorough cleaning....

When my customer Rivkie called about this 15-30, she said it WAS working OK, but started giving her feed problems recently. Rivkie has seen my videos and specifically wanted her machine to be deep cleaned so she would be starting at a point of as 'like new' as possible for a 95 year old machine. We jokingly called it getting the full Brandi Maye as a lot of machines I demonstrate on are owned by Brandi, and thus Brandi has a lot of 100 year old machines whose mechanisms look factory fresh.

Do you have a video showing the reassembly on this model?

Hi Bob, I'm new to this Singer Vintage machine thing, I have bought a 15K, that I'd love to learn to repair. Right now it's jammed /frozen. I've oiled well (as per the user manual) all the oil points. The balance wheel doesn't turn (I'm not forcing it). The main shaft does seem to try to move, but doesn't. I've managed to disconnect the fork linkage, but the connecting rod linkage seems to be in the up position. I managed to undo the nut a little, but I can't put a screwdriver in the screw to unscrew it (due to its position, which I can't change unfortunately ) . I wanted to disconnect it so I could try and locate the blocking parts. 😢. Any advice?

I have a feeling the issue with mine is more in the head, before the needle bar or maybe the needle bar is stuck.

Excellent video, very detailed... So your customer was wanting a complete tear down because he/she just wanted the machine completely cleaned ? What do you call this service you just performed ?

A miracle - I was entranced the entire time. Bob seems to be able to perform miracles like this in a trice - for the impossible a little notice is required! :-)

She got this machinec a little over a year ago. I did a service call then and we got her working, but she was still pretty dirty. We talked about a detailed cleaning, but she uses this machine CONSTANTLY, so we had to find a time when she could be put in 'maintenanceode' for a week or two...
