Buy vintage!! No new crap for me. Yes I have no doubt Juki are great machines. But who can afford thousands of dollars. Not me, besides the old vintage machines have much more beauty and appeal.

Exactly. Grab a 401 or a 500a or a Kenmore 158, 15 class, front load. Way better machines. You can do some sleuthing and find a nice one for a couple hundred dollars.😎👍

@@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 I've got 5 vintage machines. The oldest is a Singer 99K hand crank in mint condition. Love all my machines, use them all regularly on rotation and wouldn't part with any of them ☺️✨💖

Absolutely. Nothing good to say about the way they market these machines to trusting, unsuspecting folks. The Singer “Heavy Duty” moniker is selling a lot of machines for them. It’s sad that “profit over people” has become the mantra of some marketing operations.

$5 for the motor, shafts and screws. A sad imitation of a Singer. You can get an all metal Singer at a yard sale for $10, and $25 in a cabinet that would cost $1000 today.

I encourage folks to do exactly as you suggest. A little oil and patience, maybe a belt or a bobbin winder ring, and voila : a masterpiece. 👍🏼😎

@@parminderkaursidhu623 Kenmore 158 series that is a front load, 15 class bobbin setup. Or a Singer 401,403,404, or Singer 500-a, 503, 504. They are all perfect machines.

I got a step down from this machine from a friend of mine to work on and just taking the screws out. The plastic was just disintegrating into powder. I don't know how I'm going to fix that that I'm trying to clean it up and see if I can get it working. Cuz doesn't seem like there's anything else that broke but we'll see what's going on with it I did offer her one of my sewing machines that I've got fixed up. That's an all metal vintage sewing machine but she wants this one back so I'm going to see what I can do to make it work

You might try putting some quick hardening epoxy on the screws when you reinstall them. These machines were built to be cheap and disposable in my experience. Maybe your customer will come around to a better machine after she’s had enough frustration with this one.

@@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 not a customer. It's a friend's wife. I refurbish antique vintage sewing machines and she told me hers wasn't working. I said I'd look at it and see if I couldn't get it working and the screw threads on the plastic just seem to be disintegrating. I've got the needle bar working and the presser foot bar working out and things like that where everything seems to be working. The gears and belts seem to be in good shape but I don't know how long that'll last. I have a machine I would give her because she's you know friend of mine but she wants this machine. I think it goes back to her childhood somehow. I'm not sure but this machine has some special meaning to her

@@ecay I get those from time to time. If a machine has a sentimental attachment, that pretty much dictates that I fix it no matter what. I understand totally.

I bought 2 machines in the past 7 days, a Necchi 3101FA and a Kenmore 158.13180. The model 1318 has a gear box for the bobbin shuttle, and it had congealed grease from 50 years ago. I flushed out the old grease, and put Mobil 1 grease in the gear box and screwed the lid on it. I like this 1318 Kenmore so far.

@@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 They are. I own a 158.1940 (poor man's 41), 158.1914, 158.1931 (rich man's 41) and a Kenmore 54 (with a nylon stitch length cam that needed a replacement via 3D printing). All of the metal Kenmore machines I now own are a direct result of learning that "HD" Janome machines (or any modern machine, period) are gutless, useless and designed to fall apart sooner, rather than later. If I were to roll back the clock, I would have bought myself a fully metal semi-industrial (which does NOT include the Janome H9 or its Elna equivalent; as they are now built with a very large thin nylon gear as the main drive gear on the lower drive shaft) like a Sailrite, as one fine example. Instead; I went Kenmore heavy metal, and want to thank you for constantly reminding us, your loyal viewers, that garbage is garbage. The curtains no longer match the carpet with any of this new generation of machines, and are doomed to occupy a parts bin; as well as the landfill in whatever region you live in. So, I guess I owe Janome a big ol' "thanks" for selling me that pile of nylon and common sense. While that machine is destined to end up donated (I cannot in good conscience sell it to anyone as I know it is a pile of monkeyspunk) to a local charity, all of my heavier work is now relegated to machines with both the power and infrastructure to support it.

Don’t use a heavy thread. They work best using all purpose/dual duty garment thread. They will be good for sewing shirts, pajamas, blouses, pillowcases, etc. Put the tension on 4 and make sure it’s threaded correctly. Install a new needle with the flat side to the rear. I don’t know what your malfunction is, but try all that and see if it helps.
