Cowboy Bebop is considered a 'space western', a subgenre of scifi that uses tropes commonly associated with western films - bounty hunting, gunfights, shootouts and a general tone of space being a lawless place that criminals and bounty hunter alike are exploiting for their own gain. The show isn't strictly any one genre, it mixes in many different styles of storytelling, and the combination feels unique even today. As for other songs on the soundtrack to check out, I recommend Waltz for Zizi the most, but the entire soundtrack is a masterpiece showing the broad skillset of the band and songwriter.

to be fair, 25 years is not THAT old by any standard. Most of humanities best movies, books, songs are way older than that. and Anime might be a newer art form than books for example, but even Anime has been around for over a century, so 25 years really isn't that much.

Armitage III is one I think too... Probably lesser known and maybe not the best, but still pretty good... It can get a bit complicated in some ways... I think the English release of Zeta Gundam used an instrumental track, even though the original had songs with lyrics... I think Robotech might have used an instrumental track too... At least for the Macross portion (I haven't seen the other two parts)... Given that various anime used to sometimes get their soundtracks redone for various dubs in different languages, sometimes getting a completely new score and everything... That potentially confuses things...

Therefore Japanese anime up to the 1990s and modern Japanese anime are similar on the outside, but not on the inside. The same goes for the Japanese music industry.
Old? Seriously? DBZ is older than this. Sailormoon is older than this. End 90s. It came on par with Trigun and OutlawStar. "I wonder if that's what they think 2071 would be back then?" Dude, that's not the 50s or the 70s. Also the date 2071 is 'in the past'.
