I bought this machine in 2020. I’ve used it a few times to make masks but never really watched any videos so I wasn’t aware of all the features this machine has. Excellent video!!!

Very good demo with some points i wondered about. I have model 9217 & similar but i like this 5400. Few points: 7:00 missed which way upper thread winds to start threading or did i miss it. 15:30 tension is at fault?

Hi Singer TB of Singer Sewing Co. I am new subbie from the Caribbean Islands, this video is extremely helpful and much appreciated. However, I need your help, In December 2020 my aunt sent my mum and I the Singer Sew Mate 5400 as a gift, which I'am still elated about ...I test stitched it and it's sewing wonderfully; but I followed all the procedures to a T and I am making attempts to fill the bobbin with another color thread and its reading E2 which never occurred when I did it the first time. Please advise me what I maybe doing wrong so I can treat with it. I have a few projects that I am exited to do and we desperately need assistance. Love from the Caribbean Mandy

I doubt I'll get a response, but is it possible to disable the feet that move the fabric? I want to try free hand embroidery but it's hard when the machine is fighting me

Hi! While it’s technically possible to sew without a presser foot--this method of sewing is known as “free-motion sewing”--we don’t recommend sewing this way. Without a presser foot, you’ll end up guiding the fabric through the machine yourself instead of letting the machine guide you. As a result, you could possibly bend or break your needle. This causes damage to your machine by scratching the hook (also known as the bobbin area), and you will not be able to form stitches. However, free-motion sewing isn’t a complete deal breaker; you’ll just have to use a special presser foot. We recommend using a special Darning Presser Foot or Open Toe Free-Motion Presser Foot. You can learn more about both of those presser feet on our website. I hope this helps! 😊 -AR

Is there a foot height adjustment?
@SingerSewingCompany

Hello Jane! There isn't a button to specifically adjust the height of the presser foot but when you raise the presser foot up with the lever you can manually raise it higher to get thicker layers underneath the presser foot. Thank you! -MM

My Significant other just ordered me one hours ago, I'm super excited to learn how to use a sewing machine again. I'm tired of always having to hand sew things or pay the expensive costs for alterations. I've Always wanted to continue with sewing ever since sewing was one of my electives classes in jr, high as well as high school, So with that being said,... I'm ready to continue to learn more about how to operate a sewing machine along with the unique techniques about using the decorative stitching .... it'll be a fun hobby/experience... . 🤗🤗
