Great reaction and very impressed with your understanding of the discipline involved in singing opera. Homefree did not specialize in country until the SingOff talked them into doing it for their competition. Tim and others have talked about it in interviews. What a singer's musical training is can be very different from what they end up doing professionally. Case in point, Avi Kaplan is a formally opera trained basso profundo who sang pop acapella in Pentatonix and now sings his own compositions in folk rock. Maybe we should get Avi to do a bass aria out of Cosi fan Tutte (The Magic Flute) by Mozart next?😁 Rob is an opera trained tenor. Austin is also formally classically trained but sings in more of a musical theater and pop classics direction. He developed his channel as did Tim Foust as their income sources during the pandemic quarantine with no touring for live shows.

When I lived in London and had some money, I often went to the Royal Opera House and the English National Opera, and I reckon i can still tell a great singer (having heard some legendary figures). I've been convinced for some time that Austin has one of the best tenor voices in any genre. Now I have to accept that Rob also belongs in that category! What were the odds of a touring band of singers having two world class tenors? And can we stop being surprised that two guys we associate with a different sound, now make a different sound, and instead marvel at the almost unheralded arrival of greatness? Of course Nessun Dorma is a showstopper, Puccini deliberately wrote it to pack a tremendous emotional punch, as we wait with Prince Calaf for dawn to discover his fate. But it doesn't give up that emotional punch without a great voice to carry it and ride the waves of sound towards the end. It needs great control to follow long sentences through, and a voice capable of bringing home to us the poetry but also the Prince's courage and determination. Now we have two. Thank you for this reaction and reminding us that performance at this level is hard and needs a willingness to put in the hours. This performance would have needed a lot of rehearsal, time spent mastering the Italian and working with Sebi on the backing tape. These are good men, it shines from their faces, but now we know that they are brave as well.

Brad, this performance is beyond impressive. It is a profoundly astonishing achievement. It wasn’t until this jaw dropping performance that I learned Rob is classically trained in opera. I applaud Austin, whom is not classically trained in opera, to even attempt to sing in this genre. From an operatic perspective, Austin is considered to be a cross over vocalist. He fulfilled that role brilliantly. I’m not particularly fond of opera, but I would like for Austin to receive some training and then hear he and Rob perform again.

Phenomenal job. As surprising as when I saw Jarkko Ahola from Nightwish singing this song last week. Though I believe Opera is sung more from the chest.

Rob absolutely slayed this! Austin not so much but he tried well. They must have trained really hard before recording this 😀

They both had years of hard classical training. To me Austin's voice is more affecting and thoughtful. These days a voice like Rob's is not so much in demand.
