I love when I'm watching a reactor react to this version and they know Billy Gilman and this song from 2000 on CMT ❕❗ I was about 7 when he made his debut with this song so this whole album brings back childhood memories of always telling my mom "I'm taking the Billy Gilman CD to listen to" and then give it back a week later ❕❗

I had never heard of Bill Gilman nor heard this song before. It's beautiful, it's deep and the singing is gorgeous. I've always thought that the Billy Joel song "Don't Forget Your Second Wind" didn't get near enough air play - probably because it contained an anti-suicide message.

During the pandemic, many people have suffered untold mental damage, and it's still causing damage. My daughter suffers from depression, but we have always made sure she knows that with us, she has a safe space where she can be herself and talk about anything that is on her mind. Unfortunately, one of her classmates didn't feel like he had that safe space. He went to school one day, knowing he wouldn't be going home. He excused himself during 1st hour to go to the restroom and hung himself there. I'm one of the First Responders that covers the high school, so you can imagine what it did to me when the page came through. My heart was in my throat until my daughter replied to my text message asking if she was okay. If you're in a dark place, whatever your situation, PLEASE reach out to someone. I promise, you're not a burden, you are loved and someone you love would be VERY hurt and devastated if you were to take your own life.

I know people who have suffered severe mental health problems (they don't call it a nervous breakdown any more, there's a new term, but same problem.) Just in case some people may not have heard of the Golden Rule. It is basically a translation of Matthew 7:12. In All Things, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, this is from the Law and from the Prophets. I'll just follow that up with another truth: When you push hate, you will get hate back. When you push Love, you can only improve the lives of those you come in contact with.

Home Free is once again socially aware with putting up this video during Mental Health Awareness Month. I saw the live chat (it's on youtube in home free's channel) with Austin & BIlly, talking for about 45 minutes. Was such a good chat to hear. I tried to kill myself in 8th grade, I thought everyone hated me....kids at school bullied me, my father & brother bullied me, and my mom stood by passively for some reason. I know why my dad hated me, He already had a boy & I was supposed to be his daughter,,,,he blamed me for being a boy....and a bad one in his & my brothers eyes....both of them were always athletic lifted weights together, went out together on Saturday excursions....meanwhile I was called fairyboy, gayfuck, queerhead so much so I thought when I was to the age I was starting to look at girls, I was ashamed of it, because "everyone knew I was gay" but I wasn't...yes it was a very twisted childhood....meanwhile my brother got footballs & baseball mitts for birthdays & Christmas, I was given books about Art, videos about ballet and musical things - things my dad associated with gay guys.....I dreaded after Christmas breakfast when we all would open gifts....because I knew my dad had gotten at least one gift he & my brother would laugh at...then when I would leave the room crying, my dad would say to my Mom, "I keep telling you Mary he's a queer", and less than 5 minutes later he would announce that we need to have family prayer and give thanks to God for Jesus......even though he'd just humiliated me in front of Mom, my brother, and usually my Mother's Mom. Yes I thought about & attempted suicide once when I was in 8th grade...there is a lot more to this story, but I'll keep that to myself for right now

@@BradSteele Thank you Brad ! I had so many struggles, but the one thing that eventually would see me trough all my dark moments was in the end, my faith. Yes in the late 1970's I did give up my faith, but it was meeting Liza & she brought me back to God through her prayer & that of my (eventual) mother-in-law. They knew deep down I loved Jesus and they brought me to Him again. And through some very deep soul-searching psychotherapy with an Orthodox priest (our parish priest Father Theo) and a psycologist that was a member of the parish....I was able to workout some very, very troubling things from my past and del with in the open...yes I cried a lot but it was cathardic crying.

I too was a big Billy Gilman fan. However, I was an older fan as I turn 70 this year. I was so sad when he just kind of dropped out of sight. Then I was surprised to see him on The Voice a few years back. He picked Adam Levine to be his coach. I was also glad to hear his voice had maintained a fairly high range. I think Billy finished 2nd which was just fine with him as it let him be free to do as he pleased concerning his career. As a kid I always thought that I was here to do something special. Maybe everyone has that feeling, but this notion started when I was 5. Now at 70 the only thing I've found that I have had an extraordinary ability in is screwing things up beyond repair. So not all childhood dreams come true. P.S. I have no idea why that last blurb came out. I thought I was going in a whole different direction, so I'm just as surprised as everyone I ended up saying what I did. As a lifetime combatant with ADHD and BiPolar 2 my mind doesn't operate as everyone else does. I guess as I was remembering Billy and the things he has dealt with, he still always had that voice. Why did I just write this? I have no idea. If you figure it let me know.
