Thanks. I’m getting one tomorrow. When I was in middle school everyone had to learn to sew for my classes. It was too much for me at that age but I want to make my own travel art bags and other small projects now as an adult. This really threads so similar to bigger machines. Apartment living with my other hobbies I couldn’t afford the space for a big machine. You definitely covered the necessary how tos. I’m so excited.

We just received our Singer stitch plus machine and like a typical guy I thought I would just "figure it out on my own". Big mistake! After a good deal of frustration and inventing a few new curse words because my oversized fingers make it hard on this small machine, and I haven’t threaded a machine in many decades, I "broke down" and watched your video. I wish I would have swallowed my foolish pride and watched a video first. My job involves fixing things and troubleshooting, so I am used to having to figure things out, but when possible it’s always nice to have someone show you the easiest way to do it. Very well done! Thank you very much!!

Outstanding tutorial !! Mine is a newer version in that Singer put a slot in the needle holder screw so that you could change the needle easier. While I do not have a lot of experience with sewing machines, I feel it actually sews really good. I was able to shorten and narrow the width of my magnetic screen for my RV door. For $23.00 + tax at Walmart, I thought it was a great deal. Thank You for all the tips on threading AND about pulling the needle thread so that you do not bend the needle.

Do both spools need to be the same color thread? I have many work pants of that orange/brown carhardt color, similar to the orange in blue jean stitches, and wondered if that's what I need to do. Alteration shoppes charge more than what I paid for the pants, so this will be a big savings.
@Jean78578

Normally, you would use the same color. But, using different colors will work and it also helps you adjust the tension. If you see the bobbin thread color coming up to the top side, loosen the tension a tad and test again..

Are we able to get it to go forward & reverse to tack down the first stitch so it doesn't come undone?
@Jean78578
7 ай бұрын
There's no reverse. However, this machine does a traditional lock stitch (with top and bottom threads). Some of the smaller handheld machines have just one thread and they do a simple loop stitch. On those machines, you would have to pull the ending thread to the other side to lock the stitch.

How do you end the stitch? Everything stitched fine but then it just pulls out easily. Other sewing 101 instructions talk about doing a back stitch or putting the machine in reverse but I don’t know if that is possible with this one. Thank you!
@Jean78578
2 жыл бұрын
Since there is a bobbin, the stitching should not unravel. Some other handheld sewers only have one thread, so then you have to pull the ending thread through to the other side. If desired though, you can pull the top thread to the bottom, tie both threads in a knott, and then snip the excess.
