Hahaha love it, so much better than Beyonce original which I use to have to endure everyday on I98FM at work, hearing a commercial pop/dance tune country bootskootin boogie style always cracks me up n often when a country band covers an annoying top 40 song they make it sound much better n funny at the same time, excellent cover hahaha love it!!!:D lol

@4teacher4 pt2 and to answer your question - I never said I could define the "Aussie ethos". In fact, in the sentence you picked on, I myself was only talking about the process of defining (identifying) it, as it IS a very intangible thing, but something some of us believe exists. It is the job of artists and poets to define it, not me in one youtube comment. But you just trot out your leggo piece of an argument and try to plug it into this discussion. That's smug.
@tosgem
14 жыл бұрын
@4teacher4 You think you're just running rings around me intellectually, don't you? "Please define the Aussie 'ethos'". I'm fully aware of the conservatives reaction to a percieved changing Australian "makeup", the lamentations for a "lost" Aus, ungainly "Aussie test" for immigrants under Johnnie, and the counter from the conventional left along the lines of "How DO you define what is Australian then? Who is to say?". You think you can just play that soundbyte and dismiss what I'm saying.
@tosgem
14 жыл бұрын
@4teacher4 you think there is nothing in our own Australia outlook and ethos that is worth even identifying? Are you saying that it doesn't exist, or simply that it's not valuable?I wonder what the Pigs collaborator here, John Williamson, would say about the? "Hey True Blue"? And yes, the American twang I hear in so many Aussie singers diction annoys me. I have always been taught to sing in my own accent, by my grandfather, mother and father.
@tosgem
14 жыл бұрын
@4teacher4 I can see you don't want to argue any more, not because I've "won" but because youtube arguments are stupid, but for the record - I'm embarassed even when someone from New York or Canada tries to pretend to be a southerner with no real connection to it in their lives. But maybe authenticity is a silly and old fashioned thing that I should let go.

I'm saying an artist can interpret a song anyway they want to. Whether they do it well is up to interpretation, but there is NOTHING wrong with singing a sing in any accent. I see no difference between Elton or Bono "skewing" toward American, and the Pigs "skeweing" toward Alabammy. And there is nothing wrong with any accent. Mine is half American and half Aussie, so what?

@tosgem you're right...but given that we're only a couple of hundred years old as a country, i don't think there's any big deal with not having a specific cultural identity, (or a description of it). It's pretty rare that we hear Aussie performers not use a bit of yankee twang. what has race got to do with it? although I agree, you seem to be a bit xenophobic. So what are you bitter about...I'm lost. (And The Pigs are shit hot...amazing talent...are you jealous or just don't like the accents?)
@scotartt
14 жыл бұрын
@DangermanDownUnder so if i make a reggae track and speak in complete fake Jamaican patois it's OK then? And as authentic as the original thing? It's one thing for Elton John or Bono etc to slew their accent towards american but entirely another to put on a down home boys from Alabammy accent. What's the matter with the Australian accent anyway? Williamson's a master of it (as much as I actually hate his music)

Why does Elton John sing in a fake American accent? Or Tom Jones? Or Bono? Man I'm tired of people complaining about the accent in music. Artists sing songs they way they sing them because it is how they express themselves. live with it.

@4teacher4 yeah, you're right! It's difficult to define "Australian" in a few neat catch phrases, therefore we have no cultural identity of our own whatsoever! We should just copy everything the Americans do! (not that I dislike Americans) How dare anyone complain, they must be racist xenophobes!!
