Single crown: - efficiency at pedaling (weight) - reactivity - price Dual crown: - confidence in the D- - look - rigidity Note: by a psychological aspect this should create the desire to surpass yourself more, reducing the gap of efficiency. Your channel is just amazing, without a doubt the best one to go in deep in suspension for MTB on internet. The amount of effort is mind blowing. You certainly deserve more followers!

This is a fantastic test. Thanks for putting all that time, effort and money into this comparison. You’re in a league of your own! Which bike did you mount the forks onto and is it cleared for dual crowns by the manufacturer? I’m currently running an Enduro dual crown (MRP Bartlett) on my Ibis HD5 but I’m very much wanting to try it on my Ripmo V2. Do you believe that the additional forces of a dual crown could be detrimental to a modern carbon Enduro bike like the Ripmo under normal riding circumstances? Thanks again for your work!
@RULEZMANSUSPENSION

bike is written at end of video. I don’t have title to confirm or ban the use of a dual crown fork on an enduro frame, but what I can say, without any right to say it , is that I know frames are usually tested on a iron rig that holds the steertube way stronger that a dual crown fork. so to my knowledge a dual crown wont be a problem on any bike... but, this is just an opinion, do your tests and researches before you install something different from the original fork.

This video is absolutely fantastic and matches my opinion as well. I once slapped a fox 40 on my enduro bike in order to do a downhill race (not very scientific, left it at 203mm and the hel actually felt worse because I had to over spring the shock to match the fork, leading to a very high bb and steeper head angle). Instantly the benefits of stiffness became very apparent. I also felt like I was able to run stiffer spring rates without deflecting allowing me to go even faster. The handling through g outs and take offs was way more composed too

@@RULEZMANSUSPENSION I agree 100%. I believe the biggest reason we don’t have dual crown Enduro bikes is that the reach has been too short and peoples knees would be on the crown on climbs. Finally after years we’re moving the right direction.

Hey there I came across this amazing video via the Google rabbit hole while looking up headtube angles to see whether my own bike is ideal or too much.. I'll explain.. I'm on a 2nd hand MTB budget, and also 10yrs out of the loop after no riding for 10 years after living in Melbourne where you have to go further to ride. Now I'm back in Christchurch NZ where we have a 450m vertical descent just 10mins from the city centre.. So on a 1k NZD budget I bought a 2014 Kona Entourage, which was an Aggressive Enduro, or a mini Downhill. But I bought mine upgraded with Fox 40s & Fox RC4 rear. So it's like a 180mm rear, short travel downhill bike. The bike was built with a lower BB to maintain centre of gravity, & shorter chainstays to be more flickable in parks & switchbacks, with already slack geometry for descents. So even though it's a 2014 frame with 26inch wheels, it has the appearance of a long & low modern downhill bike. But I'm wondering if maybe the headtube angle is a little overkill. I haven't measured it yet but if by chance you know of the frame, designed for gravity riding & hucking. If maybe the Fox 40s would alter the geometry just a bit too much? Be interested in your thoughts..

DH forks are DH forks. if you wanna usw foe enduro, you have to modify it. No enduro dual crown exists on the market right now
@danharvey3096
2 жыл бұрын
@@RULEZMANSUSPENSION That's not what I was asking but cheers for reply anyway.. The bike I was enquiring about, a 2014 Kona Entourage was an Aggressive Enduro or a Mini Downhill as standard. It has more of the aspects of a Downhill bike of its time than a 2014 Enduro or Freeride normally did. With slack geometry, low BB & big welds & suspension bolts. With the Fox 40 upgrade it looks like a proper Downhill, rather than an older Enduro or Freeride bike with a Fox 40 added. It just has 180mm rear instead of 200mm is all, so is also climbable to a point. But I was asking if maybe the Fox 40 would make the head tube angle too slack & affect handling. But it's all good, I found an app & measured the angle, it's 62deg which is well within a DH standard, & a 35mm offset, so it's all good on that front.. It's an interesting frame though. Despite shorter chainstays it still has a reasonably long wheelbase. And despite it being a 26inch frame from 2014, it still has modern geometry & looks like a more modern bike, probably due to a lower BB. Will get an actual Enduro MTB when I upgrade to a newer bike though..
@RULEZMANSUSPENSION
2 жыл бұрын
you need 555 tall fork for that bike. Geometry is like a bmx of 2020… it is extremely short in wheelbase , mega short in chainstay, and 65 hA. I would not put a fox40 on it
@danharvey3096
2 жыл бұрын
@@RULEZMANSUSPENSION Ok cool cheers for the reply again. Yeah it already came with the Fox40 on it & the RC4 also. I bought it 2nd hand for 1k nzd. I also bought it having not had a mountain bike in 10 years, just a single speed fixie for commuting. So i didn't even realise 26inch frames weren't being made any more, only that i thought i wanted a Downhill bike & i was on a budget. My previous bike 10 years ago was a 2008 Iron Horse Yakuza so the Kona Entourage seemed modern lol. All the prices on 2nd hand 27.5 frames were around the 1800 mark unless major problems. In retrospect i should have just waited & bought a newer bike as i needed to replace parts anyway but it's all a learning curve i guess.. With the Fox40 the head tube angle changes from 65 to 63/62, i used a protractor app to measure it. I wouldn't think that's too drastic? Given the frame is pretty bombproof & still has newish geometry i wouldn't think it would put too much strain on the frame?

It's a great test and thanks for doing it. However one important thing that isn't accounted for in the climbing comparison is that it appears that Rulezman's climbs are smooth road climbs. The issue with carrying that extra weight up front around for me (and many others I'm sure) on my technical climbs is that I will have to manual that big DC fork up and over approximately 1000 ledges per ride. It's my opinion, that in that scenario, that the additional weight of the DC fork results in considerably more climbing penalty then the physics calculation has noted.

This is interesting to watch now because it seems like enduro racers are actually trending towards less suspension. The specialized gravity enduro team prefers to ride a Stumpjumper EVO, and Rhys Verner won the Lenzerheide round on a 130 mm Forbidden Druid. Not only that, but the Commencal Enduro Project team has been using a 150 mm 29er as their main race bike for the past 2 seasons. It might just be racers who want efficiency and maneuverability over straight-line speed, but it also could be a sign of the industry going too far, and then dialing back, somewhat like what happened with headtube angles and bottom bracket height.

I just ordered a Dorado after watching your videos. I'm going for a DH/Enduro setup. This will be my first USD fork and to be honest I'm very curious how it feels and if it's real flexy like a read in many reviews...Top quality content here!

Superb video, I can't help but notice the silver/grey Mezzer behind you! I have been looking forever for that color fork to match the anthracite Orbea Occam, any chance I can buy one off you? :) (inside EU)

Hi first of all great vidéo multo professionale...now i want to Say that i only have two bikes a xc and enduro .two years ago i instaled a dual crown inverted fork 203 mm Travel on m'y enduro, i did it mostly for thé style and i reallized the ride IS better i feel more confident i feel more stiffness. I have more wheelbase. M'y xc IS also modified i have 160mm Travel AT front and 150 AT rear i dont Care about the rules. M'y xc IS a much better bike than was before . I have more head tube angle and more wheel base and i feel thé diference. I also want to Say that i like your alluminium color bikes ,i like the natural colors of the metals.

Ciao

I’m on my 31st MTB. You ride long enough and you see trends come and go and frankly most folks are sheep and follow the latest fashion, unwittingly. There is absolutely no sense in not using a dual clamp fork for all riding where fork performance is crucial. I’m also not convinced that this dogma that dual clamps put more force on the headtube… I think what that means is during a crash your tube can be whacked by the legs, sure. But in normal riding - surely the force is just better spread over the tube with a DC and therefore actually LESS. Always best to think for yourself and test carefully, like Dave - MANY THANKS! From a fellow DC on Enduro bike user

Don't forget everything is built to a price,and that dual crown will be very expensive to manufacture,and may not be financially viable,because obviously,they need to be sold in huge numbers,and the percentage of pro riders compared to weekend warriors is very,very small,we all aspire to be like Richie Rude,but that's only going to be in our minds. But respect to you,for your efforts,and your engineering.

Thank you for all the time you put in to this. I wish Manitou would put out a dual crown enduro fork. May be 30 or 32 stanchions should be enough?

they wont. the enduro segment is covered by the mezzer 37mm. If you want a dorado custom you gotta call the A Team.. or rulezman 😂
