Fun trivia. This build of the game was actually built in SEVEN MONTHS. What happened was, their previous build, which they spent 2 years assembling, brought consoles to their knee's. Half the levels crashed the PS3 and the Xbox 360 suffered horrific RAM issues. Hell, even the PC version was chugging on developer hardware. Activision forced them to scrap everything and rebuild from scratch, telling them they only got about 10-11 months to release the game. In reality, that meant they would have to build a new game in 7 months, with the rest going towards tweaking and shipping. I guess this also explains why it received very little attention, fanfare and advertisements on release day. It's really a miracle when you think about it, and it just goes to show how much talent brewed in Raven Softwares offices back in the day.

I had the opportunity to play this game recently and it was one of the most solid and fun single player FPS campaign I've played in quite a while. Indeed it is a rather short experience but what is there is an absolute blast. BTW, I don't know if it is because of modern hardware but I did not encounter a single issue with the textures, everything looked super crisp and not a single texture looked out of place. (Only modification I did to it was to fix the game's default FOV which is quite low) I really cannot believe how critically panned this game was back when it released, some critics calling it "mediocre", Honestly some good games slip through the cracks because of "professional" critics that wouldn't be able to recognize fun if it bit them in the nads.
@MrMatWeller

Agreed. The fact that this game isn't at least as popular as Bioshock is a crime. Yes, it's too easy. Yes it should be longer. But like you said, despite that, it's still super fun and it has enough unique things to discover and beautifully detailed scenery that you can look past that and still really love playing it. Even at double the length I'd want more.

This game was awesome. Normally, I don't get care about the story but this game had me hooked. The graphics were good, the weapons were amazing, many of the environments were detailed, it was suspenseful, the enemies were creative, the boss fights were entertaining, the puzzles did not affect the pacing, the atmosphere was terrific, the TMD was a fine addition and the whole mix of sci-fi, action and horror was brilliant. I agree that it should have been longer and even more variety with the weapons, enemies and environments would have made this one of the best games around. As it stands, it is still easily one of my favourite single player FPS experiences.

The graphics are still quite good considering this game came out in 2010 (damn, I feel old) and the gameplay is very satisfying. The story is also interesting with some intriguing characters and settings. I highly recommend picking up this game, however, even though it's 8 years old, it's still $30 USD on steam. I really enjoyed this game. I especially just loved the cheesy mad science feeling of it all. Its a trend some shooters ride off of for their plot (especially before the Cod4 trends set in), but its one that never gets old to me. The gameplay was a lot of fun, the enemies were varied up a good bit, and it was the first game that actually opened my eyes to the developer and from there and 2009's wolfenstein I went to check out what else they had. Its a shame what happened to them, I hope some day they're given the reigns back to make games.

I definitely enjoyed playing this, as it had me totally immersed into the setting. I think that the whole time element was done really neatly, and I did feel like the hero of some action film - more so than many other FPS games I've played recently. Many of the things you state in this video I can completely relate to, and it's nice to see the game getting some credit. My only gripe was the endings, as I felt like that, no matter how you you played throughout the game it would always narrow done to three, quite simple choices. What if I wanted to restore the timeline to the 2010 we know today, sans the Katorga-12 incident happening in the first place? Not saying that would have been the "best/good" ending, but it would have been interesting to have had that option nonetheless. Anyway, that's just an opinion!

Great suggestion! I just bought and played the first two hours and it's awesome. Who would have known I heard nothing about this game I figured it sucked.

From what I gather from the comments and the review, this game is just unbelievable. It's sad that I never knew this existed.

Never heard of this game, but it sounds like a badass concept for a story

This game is an underrated gem. I expected to be a bioschock rip off but it turned out to be one of the most surprisingly enjoyable games i have played. Even though so few seem to know about the game, it's totally worth it.
