Good job , We generally have a beam With a 300x8 plate welded to the bottom with equal overhang on each side and cut a notch on bottom of existing floor joists and let them sit on the plate ,no need for the beam fill timbers or joist hangers as they can't be wrapped over the top and fixed where there's limited room

Thanks Brian, i have seen that bottom plate done by A & E construction like that, knocking joists on 1 side. Thats a very good idea using it on a job like this one. Great feedback

Impressive work! But, how did you guys know the length of the posts? I saw they were already pre-welded with top-bottom plates. How did the steel manufacturer know the exact measures? Also, I-ve got the same job here in Bucks. Can you guys do it?

Hello mate, you have to knock the wall down first and expose the foundation, then measure from foundation to ceiling. Then minus the spaces, the plates, the top steel, give us a call we can get it sorted for you

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry to linger. I have a stud wall to remove and certain it’s structural. The house is a wooden brick clad building so I’m sure there are no internal block walls to support an RSJ. Is it possible to support an RSJ with timber or would it require steel uprights to carry the beam. Is it also possible to tie into an RSJ at right angles to form a T to avoid having to add a central support column below the joint? Hope that makes sense. Great video. Keep up the great work. Very informative 👍

Thanks for taking the time to reply. If for various reason the steel can’t be placed in situ before you cut the joists would you use a laser to mark all the joists ?
@pauljamieconstruction1871

@neilu.k.1364 yes laser or chalk line. Then use a boat level to plumb a line with a pencil on each joist

If the rsj is deeper than the ceiling void, you could batten under the joists , platser board and skim. Effectively lowering the ceiling. Is this what you mean?
