Miami 2024, altrettanto bene, sinner dagli ottavi in poi era ingiocabile, imbattibile, nella sua massima forma psico - fisica, e con Medvedev vinse in semifinale 6 1, 6 2: ma l'impressione fu che non gli volle fare il 6 0, non volle umiliarlo. Ieri invece era "cattivo" e si vedeva chiaramente che giocava per fargli "l'ovetto". Mi vengono in mente alcune dichiarazioni (3) di Medevedev (rilasciate negli ultimi 5/6 mesi che probabilmente non hanno fatto piacere a Sinner. Nell'ultima, recente, aveva detto che il giocatore con cui trova maggiori difficoltà è Alcaraz. Stamane ho letto che in conferenza, dopo il match, Medvedev ha ricordate quelle dichiarazioni e ha cambiato idea. Ha detto che lui si sentiva benissimo eppure era impossibilitato a rispondere a Sinner, precisando che ha cambiato idea e che mai, con nessun altro tennista, si è trovato in difficoltà come in questo incontro con Sinner.

@@iceescape Rune would still have lost in a direct clash with Medvedev. In any case, the tournament in its title refers to Slams. Rune has never won one. I understand that a sixth player had to be found and that other active Slam winners may now be in decline (in this sense Nadal's participation is a noble, dutiful and even legitimate exception), but Rune - Slam in the same context is still an oxymoron.

Exhibition matches are relatively meaningless. Each player is guaranteed $1.5 million just for showing up. There’s a $6 million incentive to win the “tournament”.

@@usermatisse Not really, the last quarter of 2023 was the start of evolved Jannik that we see now. Maybe you don’t follow Tennis closely but the current evolved version of Jannik didn’t start in Australian Open 2024, it started towards the end of 2023. So when he lost that match he was his best self. The only thing Novak is no longer his 2023 self.

During the winter pause he improved a lot his serve, that's the only reason why he lost atp finals final last year.
