I LOVE how incredibly accurate and inspired the Sinnoh map was with Hokkaido, like the few things that didn't perfectly align to one singular aspect were usually just a flawless combination of the possible differing options, and the layout of the map itself aligns SO well that it's just incredible how much effort they put into making sure the deliberate details came across!

If I remember correctly, the Pokémon Ranger regions of Fiore and Almia are geographically based on that cut-off Southern tip of Hokkaido (which is why those games send Manaphy eggs to the Sinnoh games, the nearest main region).
@thepsyshyster

Almia is indeed based on primarily on the area south of where Canalave is, with the desert area being on the main island of Japan. Fiore, however, is based on areas west of Kansai, which is the part of Japan Johto is based on. And though it wasn't mentioned, Oblivia is based on a very small group of islands north of Kansai.

I just realized something about Cranidos and Shieldon. Yubari was a mining town for coal and iron. Fossil mons are brought back...well, from Fossils, so of course they're Rock-type (especially since they were mined up!) Coal is a rock-like substance, meaning Cranidos is a pure Rock-type. Iron is a metallic substance, so Shieldon is part Steel-type! I could be overthinking this but idc lol

Woah. That's an amazing level of detail, I never knew or even expected this level of fidelity. And it's also very impressive that you found this just using google maps and what online resources were in English (I've been in my own hell of researching Japan and not being able to use a majority of sources because I can't read them). It would be amazing to see more videos like this, although I imagine doing one for Ahola, Galar, or Unova would be easier. Let's hope Legends Arceus keeps that up (I know people have been able to play an emulated version of the game for like a week, but no spoilers please) with a Pokemon-ified version of history where the Galaxy Expedition team turns out to be the bad guys (suprise suprise) who do some E-rated colonialism. Not like murder or anything horrific. Just an evil plan of disrupting the harmony between humans and Pokemon and forcing the Diamond and Pearl clans to give up their culture. Would be kind of a dark twist that even if they don't say it in game, the fact Sinnoh has a similar culture to the previous 3 regions means they do win in the end.

The Hearthome section of this video just gave me the craziest theory: Fantina's baby died! You see, according to the video Hearthome is children friendly, has the park where only cute and babylike pokemon can enter, but it also has a beauty contest arena. All these three would make this city to be THE perfect place for a Fairy Type gym. The Fairy type has the biggest number of baby pokemon, it also has other not baby but fairy type pokemon with baby theme like Flabebe and Ralts. The Faity egg group has other non fairty type baby pokemon such as Pichu. So is hard to disagree that Fairy equals child innocence and or motherhood. Fantina is said to be french, Kalos is inspired in France, were the Fairy type emerged. But besides all these coincidences pointing to a Fairy Gym, we have a Ghost type one. Fantinas dress and secondary ace(?) are Drifloon related. A pokemon notorious for taking children away. Fanstina's gym also looks like a church in the DP and hs a cemitery vibes puzzle in Pt. All these factor conect to where people go to bury passed loved ones AND reconect with god after a major period of grief. So MAYBE, Fantina went all the way over Hearthome from Kalos to recover from the lost of a loved one. It doesn't make much sense for a happy person like her to be Ghost obsessed. But also when you consider that Ghost means death and babies mean new life, maybe Hearthome is the place of Death and rebirth. The very theme of Scorpio astrological sign. What exactly Fantina has to do with scorpios? I don't really know yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if she was one. Maybe that would explain her passion for ghost and death. Scorpios are known for recovering from major traumas and personal ruin.

This video helped explain something to me about Legends Arceus. See, Jubillife Village is too close to the sea. Which makes sense in the lore, Galaxy Team WOULD set up closer to wherever they landed. But there’s just not enough room for Canalclave City. Plus, Oreburgh doesn’t exist, so they couldn’t have helped with this town! But I had failed to figured out that Jubilife City lacks something Jubilife Village has: a canal. I had never connected the name Canalclave and canals, even though I should. And that really helps this part make sense! Jubilife Village was where Canalclave is now. At some point, they decided to flatten out more land and move the city center there. And the new suburb of Jubilife, being mainly a port town now, took its name from its most prominent street, Canala street. They do remain really close together for Pokémon cities, after all. I haven’t finished the game yet, so this may end up being off base. But it’s the kind of thing that happens sometimes, and the name moving usually gets forgotten by all except the biggest historians. (Cynthia almost certainly knows this, for example.)
