I will never forget those Sunday afternoons at FC Porto stadium enjoying my team playing the beautiful game as it is supposed to be played: with joy. Those two and a half years were amazing, two leagues and one cup. Thank you, Sir Bobby Robson, we at FC Porto will never forget you, great gentleman.

There seemed to be a power struggle between Shearer and Gullit, they'd just got beaten by Sunderland and were struggling near the bottom of the leagie. İ will never forget him,i had great happiness in 1990 world cup. He was a real hero.i am from turkey but i have been supporting england national team since i was eleven years old. When england scored 8-0,5-0 i i used to leap for joy and the another day i used to feel myself as if a real horo who conguerd the world. When he was the manager of national football team, it was consisted of more skilfull and capable players ( glenn hoddle, lineker,wadde,cascoigne and barnes...) Than after him. His player choices were wonderful. İ would have asked him only two questions if he lived..they were::" i wonder why you did not choice more skilfull player instead of terry butcher so that it would bring more beauties to the game.because terry butcher could not use the ball well and he has potential of losing the ball easily. Tje another questio was: why you did not prefer john barnes earlier in 2986 world cup against argentina? But i will always remember and apreciate him like a big manager and a real gentelman, forevee...

Reality is that in '86, when he was dropped through his broken shoulder, England played better and arguably could have reached the final then, were it not for a certain mercurial Maradona. Having been around as a young man during that era, I don't think Bryan Robson would have made any difference latterly in '90... if anything, the reliance on him as a box-to-box player over playmakers like Hoddle has cost England massively in the long run. Don't get me wrong, great club player, but not a fit for the international game as it was becoming

Lovely guy and a fitting tribute. However the way we in England celebrate being quarter-finalists and semi-finalists is embarrassing and exactly why England will never win anything. No way would an equivalent German documentary have even mentioned reaching the WC QF. Italia 90 was an awful tournament and England were poor. Very lucky to reach the semis, where we lost to the first decent team we played. Just like Russia 2018.
@johnp515
3 жыл бұрын
Celebrating reaching the semis is not the reason we never win anything. Not being good enough to reach finals let alone win is the reason that we have so little to celebrate and thus celebrate semis. We would of course be as blasé as the Germans and regard anything other than winning as unworthy of celebration if we had won what they have but we haven’t. Nowhere near. It is what it is
