He also mentions this in his autobiography. He said filming went on for so long that his infant daughter, when asked what her father did for a living, replied 'Spartacus'.

Ustinov was a treasure to whatever country he was a citizen of that day. And that is an observation and not a criticism.

There's an older clip from a black and white tv show interview where he told the same story, but hammed it up to 11 in both his portrayal of Olivier and of his own response. Sadly it's gone from YT.

Whenever he talks about Olivier, behind the mask of, 'Hail fellow, well met', there always seems to be a hint of jealousy.

It's interesting - a lot of actors of Olivier's own generation were very wary of him. Alec Guiness famously disliked Olivier and recalled several odd incidents when Olivier was unnecessarily rude, such a pretending not to recognise Alec Guiness's wife. In his diary, Alec Guiness wrote of Olivier: "Like so many people whose ambition drives them to great eminence, he had a cruel and destructive streak. Side by side with his generosity, he could be unpleasant, possibly even vindictive. Consciously or not, he made attempts to destroy John G [Gielgud], [Michael] Redgrave, [Paul] Scofield and if he had been given the chance, me."

What's so difficult to believe? Even great artists like Olivier or Brando had their own demons to deal with. All the talent and acclaim cannot solve every problem. After all, they are just human beings, with all the issues and challenges that come with that status.
