James Stewart was a powerhouse performer. He fit any role. Mitchum not only had a considerable acting talent, he had a screen presence that only Humphrey Bogart could rival.

ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE is so much more than just a Christmas film. It earns it's ending, it forces George to find the best things in his life and not let bullshit get in the way. When he realizes what's going on and rushes to meet his family and kisses those kids, it's one of the most beautiful moments ever put to film.

both Robert Mitchum and John Wayne had fairly small roles as generals in the film "The Longest Day" but they were both so cool in those roles. John Wayne also co stared in a few films with Jimmy Stewart and i always loved them in "The Man That Shot Liberty Valance". i was a kid of the 70s and 80s, but my father was a kid of the 50s and 40s so i grew up watching those films with him. and im not sure i can say todays stars live up to those old Hollywood legends very often.

My dad passed away five years ago and he loved John Wayne movies....and The Longest Day. I never sat and watched those movies _with_ him, which I'll regret for the rest of my life. What I'm saying is, spend as much time with your father as you can, even if you _think_ you have better things to do. Trust me, you don't.

Anybody else realize that 1997 was the year for sci-fi movies? I mean, in 3 consecutive weeks there was a classic sci-fi movie. Before Men in Black was Face/Off, and after Men in Black came Robert Zemeckis' Contact. In addition to that was The Fifth Element, Gattaca and Starship Troopers.

Criterion released a Blu-Ray of _The Friends of Eddie Coyle_ in 2015. You can probably find it on Amazon. Peter Yates is a hell of a director. He did a couple of my favorite '80s movies: _Krull_ and _An Innocent Man_ with Tom Selleck.

19:00 - Shiloh is a GREAT movie based on a GREAT book. Air Bud, which came out months later, is basically "Shiloh" with a Golden retriever instead of a beagle and the gimmick of the dog playing basketball.

_Wild America_ is one of the most baffling mainstream movies i think i've ever seen. you really have to see it to believe it - at one point the three kids kids sing about 40 furious killer bears to sleep with a lullaby . . . then fart in unison at its conclusion. no, i'm not just making that up. you need to see it. if you have the time and the resources, watch this one in abject confusion.

Out to Sea was a very funny movie but I totally disagree it was better than either Grumpy Old Men movie, at least the first one. It is probably better than Grumpier Old Men which just rehashed the original but in no way was superior to the first film in my humble opinion. That was Lemmon and Matthau's finest hour after the original Odd Couple followed by Out to Sea and then Grumpier Old Men.
