It's no secret that Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert weren't big fans of Adam Sandler and his movies and The Waterboy was yet another example. Both critics gave the film a thumbs down. Ebert wrote in his Chicago Sun-Times review, "Sandler is making a tactical error when he creates a character whose manner and voice has the effect of fingernails on a blackboard, and then expects us to hang in there for a whole movie." Sandler was awarded the Stinkers Bad Movies Award for Most Annoying Fake Accent in 1998.
