Part 2: From "Cover-Up" to Self Empowerment. Interviews with Dr. Cornwell and several individuals about natural hair and the journey to self-acceptance.
I got my sisterlocks 3 months ago. I used to wear full wigs, if I had a fresh perm I would wear a lace front or half wig, once or twice a year I would get kinky twists or braids. So basically I was always covered up. My mom styled my permed hair until I was 13. My hair was always a burden. When I got compliments on my hair it meant nothing because welll I just bought it. After I got these locks I felt free. I feel beautiful from the moment I wake up til I go to bed

I dont use an excuse. I actually believe that being a woman, as you can change your shirt, I can change my hair. Personally, I am 100% natural and I love every minute of it but there's some days that I want to do something different, so I'll put on a lacefont wig and play with my options.

I think 'good hair' is whatever texture your hair is when it comes out of your scalp -- when it's health and strong, that is good hair. We as African Americans just need to learn how to better take care of your hair in it's natural state. I am so thankful for the women on KZitem who are taking care of the natural diverse textured hair and teaching other American American womeh how to do it.

I love skinny locks, on people of color. I talked to my mom about it. And she was like "That's artsy, in the village kind of hair. If you want a job don't do it." She's been natural for 44 years. What tha?

I am soooo sorry I ever put a perm in my hair so many years ago for so long. In doing so, I have damaged the edges of my hair, and I don't think I can ever undo it. My edges have been bald for many, many years. I am over 50 years old now, and my edges are gone. I hate that. I have embraced my natural textured hair over 3 years ago now. It's beautiful and health, but my edges have not grown back.

Very informative and enlightening videos. In asia, we have a self depreciating system of people with the more dominant epicanthic fold who tend to go through eyelid surgery, for a more "round eye" look that stems from our media and pop culture. It's very sad, and you hardly see any asians americans in TV and hollywood.
