The Average Annual income for Philadelphia is $70,329, for some easy math, lets say that all 12,000 people will earn that (Yes in reality some will earn less and some, much more) but, that comes out to about $844 Million generated in annual income alone from the jobs it generates for the people that will work here. That doesn’t even account for what the companies that will move into these building will pay in taxes, as well as other businesses that form around this new population center to help serve it. $6 billion is a reasonable investment for the amount of job and wealth creation that will occur as a result, while also stimulating the surrounding area and the city as a whole.

They need to put shipbuilding facilities and drydocks there instead. The USN needs that.

Most of the companies that build our Navy’s ships exist elsewhere, so it wouldn’t make sense to have more dry dock facilities, if the industry that would utilize them doesn’t exist there or, at least doesn’t have a huge presence there. They would likely end up going unused or underutilized and not generating income for as many people and thus, tax dollars for the city. The city needs well paying Jobs and locations that will attract corporations in industries that do already exist here, as that has a better chance of enriching the public and strengthening the tax base.
