Greetings from a Queensbury local! My father went to to Story Town when he was a child. When I was a kid in the late 80’s and 90’s, our family would go to the Great Escape once a year (we were a family of 7). That was when Charlie Wood owned it and it was at its peak IMO. I have many fond memories of riding in Cinderella’s pumpkin and playing in the houses. When Six Flags bought it, they unfortunately removed a bunch of houses and the nursery rhyme statues. They also have not done a great job of the upkeep. A lot of things are in desperate need of a paint job and there’s wood rotting, things rusting. It saddens me to see it this way but at least they did leave some of the original things. I also frequented the Magic Forest and Water Slide World (now closed). I hope you enjoyed visiting the area! I also watched your House of Frankenstein video, I love that place!

I was just there and I have to say a lot of the houses are still there and in fairly good shape. The park itself is very clean and the water park was perfect for younger kids. Overall for $30 the park was well worth it.

My Mom and Dad took the family to StorytownUSA around 1966… Remember meeting Marshal McKay and we bought a record of him performing the song “Cool Water”, was the size of a 45 but played at 78rpm. Returned to Great Escape with my girlfriend sometime around 2000 Was shocked to find Marshall Bill still there all those years later. When I mentioned that we had bought his record all those years ago, He asked if I still had it. I felt bad to tell him that we had lost it just a few years prior. I remember being up in the area in 2007, picking up the monthly “Things to Do” monthly booklet for Lake George and reading about Bill McKay celebrating his 50th year as Marshal in it. Brought a smile to my face remembering how cool Marshal McKay was. Still smiling just thinking about those experiences. Thank You for your KZitem post, It’s great to be reminded of treasured memories. 👍🏻🍺😎

I recognize the power of nostalgia. I'm glad you can enjoy it once more. However I've gone on this myself with no nostalgia. It is the roughest and worst designed coaster I've ever been on. Benefit of the doubt, maybe they messed up the reconstruction. Six Flags doesn't give a flying pig about this park. They know it's the only park in hundreds of miles, in a heavy tourist area, and will make money regardless.
@amberanntn
3 жыл бұрын
@@crowmigration8245 the roller coaster was stored in a field for years before SF bought it. By that time a lot of the track had been damaged and had to be repaired. If I’m not mistaken, Arrow Dynamics, who originally designed it, went out or business the year before Canyon Blaster opened so I believe that the track may have been replaced in house. From the POV videos you can actually see where the Arrow track ends and the newer replacement track begins. They also changed a couple of transitions, I’m assuming to make it fit. So, I can definitely see why it would be a terrible ride experience now. And boring to boot. And to think, I was terrified to ride that as a young kid. lol

Before I even watch. This was my childhood park. Comet, the rotor, Skylab, magical mystery tour, Desperado plunge, nightmare, musik express, nature hike, petting zoo, swan boats, rainbow, Cinderella, the cave, etc. Just to name a few. Most are gone or abandoned, those that remain are a gimped version of their former glory. Last time I went (about 10 years ago) it was $20 just to park and $5 for a bottle of water, entry fee was ridiculous. Never going again. Six flags destroyed this park.

When I was a kid, we went every summer when it was Storytown because my grandfather started taking the family there every year when the place originally opened way back when. Even after he passed away, we'd still go, the entire family every Labor Day weekend. Back then, when Jerry Lewis still did the telethon, the High Divers would collect coins and money after their performances in the pool all weekend for the MDA and it was always guys from the US Olympic and the US Cliff diving teams. The roller coaster, once called the Steamin' Demon, in Ghost town was always my late stepdad's favorite.One of my best memories was feeding the billy goats on the bridge and going into the area that was Jungleland. There were pontoon bridges made from barrels and swinging bridges and other stuff. One year my mom fell through up to her knees. Some of the best memories were had there.

I'm 31 years old now and reside in Myrtle Beach SC. But When I wad 8 years old I rode in the pumpkin carriage with Cinderella. It was a woman dressed up just like her, and there was even a coachman wearing coat tails, and a white wig. It was drawn by 2 beautiful white horses and the carriage rode around the castle in a circle two times as Cinderella told us about her time at the ball with the prince. She was such a sweet woman! I miss it! It was so sad because anytime we went back to the Great Escape the coach was just sitting there Horseless, coachless and no Cinderella to be found. The magic was gone, and it was but a shell of a fairy tale. Also with the Alice in Wonderland walk through. They had characters dressed up and I met alice and the white rabbit! I miss it!

There used to be an old classic darkride called Tornado. It was themed to, you guessed it, a tornado. Six Flags ripped it out years ago. It was in tge old west section. I always liked Steamin Demon there...which the years I rode it, was one of the better Arrow loop-screws. Comet tgere is an epic woodie. Its one of the "Three Sisters" of classic PTCs along with Comet at Hershey, and tge #1 woodie again this year, Phoenix at Knoebels.

I grew up in the Adirondack mountains near Lake Placid NY. Story Town was the big vacation spot back in the 70s . I remember the Jungle walk through, there was a huge animamatronic gorilla on top of the entrance that was like an archway that rocked back and forth and growled, for some reason I was terrified of it and didn't want to go under it. I think I was about 5 at the time . I had to be picked up and carried in while I hid my face LOL.
