00:05 - Love Song
Just a little song. The first of the set written alongside "May Rain"-I feel like both of these are somewhat lacking in the form department compared to the others.
02:29 - Alla Marcia
A chaotic 12-tone rondo of some sort with a martial bent played for the absurd.
05:23 - May Rain
Titled after, and with an introductory gesture paraphrasing a song out of the soundtrack to killer7. An attempt at a spacious form within a short time frame.
06:55 - untitled song
An energetic song with a lot of diatonic sevenths. Can you come up with a name for this baby?
08:43 - Traced over Time
Meeting somewhere between a highly segmented formal scheme and improvisatory writing. The tonality in this piece is based on the geometry of partitions of pitch space, which was a novel direction for me at the time. A very free harmonic context is created where the sonorities' tonal, atonal, and polytonal senses are woven together.
11:13 - Pavane and Galliard
A neoclassical take on a preclassical genre. Here we see features of common practice voice leading extended into the realm of extended triads and quartal sonorities. Also the B strain of the Galliard is meant to be a quotation of the opening to Serial Experiments Lain, just because.
