I have never watched a long video like this without interruption, I usually get bored but I found myself pausing at the end of the video! It was so informative yet warm and touching, it was like watching them use braille next to them. I like how David explained that all blind people should be exposed to braille, everyone deserves the right to get education. From David who can read as fast as a sighted person to Bethany who makes sure her name is spelled right, they are all special and unique in their own way. They all truly bring something to this world and I’m humbled to say I always learn something from them. Thank you for being who you are! ♥️

Nice gesture! I wanna learn Braille too. It's a nice code and very useful to communicate with blind and visually impaired people. I'm already nearly fluent at English, that isn't my motherly language, and it makes me feel proud and happy for a lot of reasons. Now I'm trying to learn LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language), and it's really awesome, but a little different when you compare it to ASL (American Sign Language) or even LGP (Gestual Portuguese Language, from Portugal).

I was diagnosed with ROP when I was small, and I’ve been using braille for 17 years. I am 25 now, and I still find braille to be useful. Even the screen readers can be use for somethings, there’s no replacement for braille.

Hi Jack! It is mostly mom and dad and usually mom replying. You can tell it's me by emojis! 😉 Joe does not use them here. We do read the comments to them, especially when it is directed to a specific kid. Bethany does read all the comments, but we are not allowing her to reply just yet for safety. David will be in the comments on occassion, but we usually have to ask him to do it- he is very busy with school. The other kids do not see them at all. The comment section is a very important part of our community. I believe we will always be able to read them all, though it is starting to be difficult to reply to everyone like we did previously. 😉😊❤❤❤

I am a braille reader myself. I have glaucoma an I'm planning on teaching braille to young blind and Visually Impaired children so braille is very important to me. I started learning Braille when I was Nineteen at the Florida school for the deaf and blind. I'm so glad I learned Braille for my future teaching career with visually impaired kids, but also because glaucoma could possibly limit site where I have to use braille only. I have a braille writer and and about seven slates and styluses. I also have braille books and I am taking a braille class through Hadley ueb contracted Braille. I always try to read Braille and right Braille with my sleep shades on since I have a little bit of sight. I tried to pretend that I am blind from glaucoma and I have to read Braille with my hands instead of my eyes. My favorite type of Braille is contracted Braille because there is more to write and there's more to read and challenge my brain ! Like for instance I am reading a to volume Braille book on glaucoma that will take me a while too finish. Braille books like this challenging but it is good practice with improving Braille skills! At my college there is Braille everywhere and I practice reading it and I've also put Braille on my stove and the washing machine to practice reading it as well as the microwave. Braille has really made my confidence level go up and I feel like if glaucoma attacks mysite then I will always be independent because I know Braille really well! To me Braille is literacy support for the Blind and Visually Impaired!

Seriously guys I enjoy watching your channel so much. Having a blind nephew myself your channel and kids have a special place in my heart. Your videos are so informative and I really feel like you are doing a great job helping the average person understand what being blind involves and all the technologies and services available to blind people are really fascinating because my nephew is non verbal we've only briefly learnt about brail, he uses a wheelchair or a buggy although has a cain he has physical issues too. So all of these devices are amazing to me! You are doing a huge service to blind people and regular people alike because we can all learn alot from watching your amazing family. I literally never get bored watching your channel, I love seeing how the kids help each other and interact like in this video. My nephew also has no light perception or language skills but your channel gives me hope for the future as he is only 13. It's amazing what these kids can achieve being in a loving family environment and you are living proof of that. Thank you guys all so much for giving us the privilege of sharing these moments in your family. I know this is an older vid, but I just got to know you guys and binging on your vids. Your family is a JOY. "It's kinda boring" sorry David, but you are wrong haha! This is so very interesting and informative! Admittedly I don't know anyone blind and I'm really glad to have more knowledge about your lives. Thank you for sharing, please continue (as long as your kids enjoy participating & consent). Absolutely LOVE seeing the progress.

So fun! They are definitely tech pros! Very impressive! Love that Braille is incorporated into the machine! Did they learn Braille in public school?

I went to high school with a guy who was legally blind back in the early 00's. He had a cart with a compact Brailler and other supplies that he rolled around from class to class. I can only imagine how much simpler life has become for those who use Braille since technology has brought so much innovation so quickly. I can't even imagine what is was like before many of these techs were available even a decade ago or prohibitively expensive. Tommy Edison has some videos about he old tech like an analogue watch that he would open to read the face of. I work with a student who can't use Braille, but he is blind functionally and the amount of technology available to help him is completely wild.

It is totally amazing! I am 100% sure that at least David will own and drive his own car in his lifetime and maybe ours Thanks to self driving vehicles! I could not have imagined any of this when Hannah first arrived! Technology=independence for all!! So cool...👍😊❤

Hi! Love this video. I am not a braille reader myself I am what they call an auditory learner. But my school is teaching me the basics… I know I’m contracted braille but I can’t read a book. The only thing that my school is teaching me is simple stuff such as reading Labels, and numbers on microwaves etc. So they are basically teaching me how to read more of the important stuff that I will encounter in my daily life.

You have 4 very good instructors! I'm completely impressed with so many things that you showed in this video- they're ability to learn thru new technology & the gift of explaining it so incredibly well. I appreciate how patient they are with one another, in taking turns to speak & not interrupting one another- that's a pretty big deal. I teach a leadership class to Jr. High students & will let them watch this video. It is very important that they have an understanding of how others, who are not typical, function in every day life. I let them watch your video showing David at college & Hannah at work, and they were completely blown away at how well they both function. My hope is that as they go out into the workforce during their teen years (most work at a local food establishment or grocery store, when they're starting out), that they will be better equipped to communicate and to work along side of others who are differently abled than themselves.

This is incredible that you are using our videos in this way! We have heard from homeschool families doing the same. Very humbling. We better step up our game! Sometimes I feel like we stumble our words and don't complete thoughts well. I also feel we could be more thorough, but it is just introductory is all. We will come up with more good topics since we know this. I can't thank you enough for sharing and letting us know!! 😊❤❤❤

It's kind of strange to think David doesn't need the computer screen, mostly the keyboard, and how incredibly fast he reads braille!!! Sure he will have a successful life, proof that "blindness" doesn't mean being disabled, it means doing things in a different way. I love watching and learning from you guys, you truly are a sunshine in my life!!

@@SixBlindKids I am drafting a post on Paths To Technology about recreational toys for VI students. I already wrote a post about the bop-it. Now I am going to write about another toy that I will be trying out with a student tomorrow. Do you all use any recreational toys, not an iPad or iPhone, that are hands on?

I have a Braille writer, too! While watching/listening to this, I was organizing my basement and a jar of olives crashed to the floor and shattered (a clean-up job my husband has to assist me with), but my response was "sie la vie" and I must thank you for keeping life in perspective with positivity and rolling with the punches. I have never used a Braille Note! That looks amazing!!! Truth be told, I'm a little out of practice since I graduated 11 years ago and can function with minimal assistance (I cant read overhead menus and I have to tap the edge of the steps if there are no transition strips). I audibly gasped as I saw the twin vision book!!! I really want one to teach Braille to my little ones!!!

Wow!! Thank you for such a wonderful comment!! We are happy our family has that effect on you! I think APH still does twin vision books and I am pretty sure you can get a subscription for monthly books at no charge to you. We donated all of our younger books to a blind friend who has a sighted son for the same reason. Please let us know if I'm right about this and you get your books!!! Here's hoping you can score a braillenote, too! You should contact your local DBVI and ask about getting technology. Lion's club Grant's are also helpful to get expensive tech! Good luck! 😊❤❤❤
