This is a sci-fi game based on WW2 ships and fighters in space so your comment makes no sense, there would be no piloted fighters and bombers in the future shooting cartridge bullets designed in 1857 in space either so get over it.

I bet they will first balance the missile, then up gun the Polaris. The larger the guns on the Polaris, the weaker the torpedoes will be.

I think many will be doing minimum range releases of their missiles/torps for that reason.

@RedJay Yeah, if CIG wants "classic torpedo" gameplay, this is the wrong way to do it. You'd need to get what a submarine has, next level stealth. Slow torpedoes just means rush in for minimum range burst DPS/Alpha strike. Maybe they think someone will send the Polaris with a Scorpious to snare disable the target'sengines...but I would just rush and torp dump.

It looks better for S9 Torps, I feel. Any ship using S9 Torps would have a squadron targeting a ship to keep him from dropping shields and going into nav mode. I don't think any ship will ever be hit with missiles or torps in nav mode with mastermodes. Mastermodes, Nav mode is supposed to be your runaway mode for the most part. I think CIG will have to think about tweaking the time to enter nav mode for sure.

Exactly, nav mode is too easy currently to avoid the weapons... but to be fair many of the counters like PDS turrets and EWAR to the torps are not in yet.

Not in SCM....In NAV yes. They are 515 at best. Used to be 550.

Actually, no. These are the Argos IX. They were always 250. So these have had a significant buff. The other size 9 torps were at 525 and 527 respectively.

Size 9 torps are for killing large and capital ships so this testing is irrelevant as their prior speed was always slow at around 575 which all smaller ships can easily outrun.

Size 9s are slower even with this builds boost to overall speed. If S9s are super east to outrun it brings up problems for the Tali in that it cannot hunt potential enemy ships of the size we have ingame... nor reliably defend against any ship that can temp tank S3 turrets

Where did you get 575 from? Argos have pretty much always been 250M/S the other size 9 torps were 525 and 527

I believe Chris Robert's vision to have a more submarine like game play with the torpedo's. That said, I would be very interesting if they involved or at the very least, stealth torpedo game mechanics.

Or at least stealth approach for the delievery ships and reasonable ranges to deploy to give the ship a chance at the kill.

I think we’re heading for a scenario where torps are undetectable until they close in at a certain range, small ships will out run them and bigger ships will shot them down but that’s ok IF they REALLY reduce that detectable range of a torpedo (not missiles) to under 800m say. This forces a last minute reaction from gunners or pilot. I’d also recommend they don’t allow flares for intercepting torps. This will give that submarine type gameplay. This is also not bad for the Taili as it will fire long range and multiple torps then scatter before fighter arrive. I’m guess the Eclipse will be the capital killer. In the way that capital will have large radars, pick up tali’s from 50k out and send escorts to intercept. The eclipse will be able to come under that radar and get a lot closer to a capital making that 5k min range achievable v a capital.

Could see 2-3 Eclipse with a scout guiding them into a target of opportunity would do well with stealthy torps. Agreed Talis having much bigger signature makes them to easy to counter unless things change even with double the torpedo load then Eclipse

@@RedJay Also it would be nice if they offered an alternative missile option. Maybe 5 size 5 for smaller faster targets. Plus I’d like the eclipse to be able to be undetectable to ground installations, use those stealth components and torps to take out some ground missions that’s heavily defended. Wasn’t that part of the advertising video.

Youve always been able to outrun torps in nav. In all verions, 3.22, 3.23 etc. The speed on the argos actually went up by 100%. These torps are essentially the same speed theyve been for over a year.

When nav does not glitch out its handy and of course pending absolutely no other enemy weapon systems of reasonable dps are hitting you.

Looking at the torp speed changes objectively maybe size 9 and above are not meant to shoot medium to large ships and are mainly for use against capital ships which will not have the speed to escape. This would add tactics to fleet combat because as high threat the turret gunners on the cap ship would be distracted by any torps heading there way opening opportunities to gunships in the area. I am not sure that torps should be able to chase down all ships as that is more a traditional missile role.

Agree 100% and CIG has even stated this, I watched another video today from Foxy and he was complaining that he couldn't hit fighters with them, I wish people making videos like this would understand the basic intended roles of ships and weapons before spreading misinformation about them.
