Looks a bit thicker than he did last year and needs a bit more weight but what an effortless smooth shooting stroke he has. Look the kid has been playing basketball for 5yrs, so he is far from the finished product but Im sure Joerger will find a way to use that shot in certain game situations. If you want him to be your starting or backup center on an NBA team over the next few seasons, then youve got the wrong guy but a big with a good shot can always be useful if you use him properly and Joerger has been shown to use a players abilities. Even Callipari had to admit that he was wrong in trying to use him like Towns during the first half of last season. A lot of these workouts are deceptive (can he really go inside?) but a shooting stroke is easier to judge.

@dionysianapollomarx

No, he can really shoot, dribble pull-up, catch and shoot for a PF. What are you talking about? He won't be much on defense. He'll get bullied.
@noahpelletier2510
8 жыл бұрын
He never showed anything more then a one dribble pull up with no one in his face. I watched him a lot this past year and he has good instincts on defense. Your right that he will be bullied in the post but not many 4s can really back you down now a days. I wanted to see him mix up his moves. A lot of guys have sweet strokes when there confidence is high in practice. At UK he had that same skill and could barely get on the floor for much of the year.
@dionysianapollomarx
8 жыл бұрын
You're right about the dribble pull-up with no one in his face and catch and shoot with no one in his face. He still does have to show more on creating his own offense, which he definitely can. His footwork from high school isn't showing much probably due to confidence issues, which I think he's resolved by seemingly adding some much needed motor and attitude whenever I look at him rebounding and dunking in this workout. That was something I rarely saw from him in high school and college. Add more muscle on the lower extremities so as not to get overpowered on box outs and post defense, and he'll be alright. Might turn out to be an all-star in the next 6 years if things go his way.
@noahpelletier2510
8 жыл бұрын
I think we can all agree another year in school to mature and gain confidence would have done him well. If he's going to play any meaningful minutes at all next year he has to show me something I haven't seen. I have no clue what his potential is, but all-star seem a little stretch at this point.
@dionysianapollomarx
8 жыл бұрын
Back in high school, it did always seem that way. Still pretty solid mobility for a big man. He still has a pretty decent touch from the post and from mid-range. It could happen for him. Still pretty optimistic on that regard, but he's definitely gonna be a project if he's gonna reach that potential. You're right though. He really needed a year or two more in college to get into a better position entering the NBA. I don't think it would've hurt his draft stock the next year if he stayed, assuming he improved.

Ok moron I am going to give you "one" of the many. At 1:19 you see him catch the ball, face up and establish his left as a pivot foot. He then shimmy shakes, switching his pivot to the right before making a move to the basket. That is a travel no matter what way you see it. The refs may not call it, but it is a travel.

alihme88 I played and now train and coach. I'm seldom wrong about prospects. I wrote before the season that Malik Newman would struggle and got laughed at. Now look at him. Again, this kid will be a MASSIVE bust. Zero ball skills, toughness or feel for the game. Bo Outlaw roboticism with Channing Frye touch. Not exactly an enticing combo.
@dy120481
8 жыл бұрын
alihme88 Malik Newman is Daniel Gibson with a crossover. That's it. Not overly athletic, bad vision and playmaking instincts, too one dimensional as a scorer.... Don't be surprised if he never makes the league. This kid has ZERO potential as a 3&D guy. He's a stretch 4 with a slow release and no ball skills. He struggled HEAVILY against the speed and physicality of college. He'll be absolutely lost in the pro's. Honestly, I think Murray from Kentucky has the most potential of anyone from this draft. I see some Lillard/Arenas in him.

Whenever Demarcus wasn't in the production always dropped. We now have him and Georgis. Georgis was a definite reach at 13. I really wanted Denzel Valentine. Valentine , Malachi Richardson, Skal and Isaiah Cousins would've been a definite grade A class for us. Nonetheless still a very good draft for the Kings other then the reach at 13.
