This day was the most unproductive in recent memory. This first train, a coal empty, was interesting for its power and the lack of use of that power. But it was also my only train for five hours.
CP8781, logoed for the Saint Johns Express, was the leader of four additional units. CP9700, CP8513, Union Pacific UP3063 and CP8806 were all on the head-end, and none were were providing power to lift the train. I was further surprised that mid-train CP8164 and end unit CP8045 weren't cut-in either. CP8781 seemed to be working hard, all by itself until the train nearly stalls on the uphill grade. The action is caught at Mile 87.4 of CPKC Shuswap Subdivision, near the Squilax-Turtle Valley Road grade crossing at Squilax, BC.
