Some of these young uns - and some of these addicts and wanna be gangsters could learn a lot from you - but I guess they've got to find out for themselves. Bill, Skem new town was built in the early 70s, yes like you said it was an over spill. When you applied for a council house you were vetted, they even inspected your house. People were made up getting a 3,4,5 bedroom house with bathroom, some houses came with a garage. It was like winning littlewoods pools for my parents, who had come from a kirkdale st. with an outside bog & a tin bath. There were plenty of factories, most people worked. Digmoor shopping parade was twice that size, it had 4 banks 2 big supermarkets, loads of shops. The concourse shopping centre was full of good shops too. As a kid you could go to a youth club, disco, sports centre etc. every night. Skem was a great place to raise a family. I would say there's 4/5 generations now since the new town started.... Digmoor has been left to run down, a lot of people have moved over to Ashurst, it's a better area at the other side of Skem, mixture of private houses & social housing so it tends to be better kept! The Skem accent is a softer scouse accent, most younger people will say they are from Skem. Them wannabe 'lids' you spoke to aren't typical, they probably never been to Liverpool 😂😂 The proper baddies are locked up!!!!? I guess you already know that. Skem is still a decent town, most of it's residents are good, friendly, hard working people.

Brings back great memories for me as a kid, Born in Liverpool we lived on Neitherfield Edinburgh towers, but mum and dad moved to Skem when it was buzzing in the 70s, sadly mum and dad split up when I was 12 so us kids went to stay with Nan in Scotland but my childhood in Skem was fantastic , I had a milk round at 9 yrs old, up at 3am walked for an hour to the dairy without being spotted by the cops, got £1 a day plus 2 pints of milk, did boxing in Skem 2 nights a week loved it, there was an adventure playground for kids on Sundays had to turn up in pairs. one got a hammer the other a bag of nails and a saw. I put my foot threw a nail a few times, off to the Sunday clinic for a jab didn't need a parent in those days to take us, just walk into the doctors and told them the problem, a different world, was a better world in those days, Swimming baths every Saturday morning then walked home through the concourse waiting for the donut man to mess up donuts he couldn't sell but he would never give us any sugar, so after a few times we took our own sugar, was in the cubs, I still go back to Skem every yr for a day but its sad the way it is now,

Seems like you could grow your own being rural. Spuds are some of the easiest to grow in a garden or even a decent plant pot just from the sprouts of potatoes. The 3 lads at the beginning... if they can only stay on the straight and narrow, get those qualifications mechanics, engineering, etc the World will literally be their fortune, Australia, New Zealand, North America etc all for a decent qualification, for essential skills.... fingers 🤞🙂 Great video, with a lot of hope and good people across the board 🙂👍

Great video Bill, i actually spent the first 7 years of my life in Skem, my brother and i used to walk to Tan House and buy sweets off this rusty old battered sweet van in one of the car parks, im 37 now so little chance I'd remember or recognise the area but still gave me some nostalgia! Cheers Billy. I live in South Wales now, when you visiting some of our towns?? Ha!

I grew up in birch green, now live on Digmoor, I always grew up thinking Digmoor was the rough area. My street is decent with decent neighbours, but there are rough areas all over now. These teens and kids with their faces covered think they're invincible now though, because nothing gets done about them. The kids need more to do and the teens need direction in their lives. Skem could thrive if people change their mindsets about the place

Just watching this is depressing, can’t imagine how awful it would be to have to live there. Re- bins, who the hell chose the colour purple in Liverpool, whenever we’ve been to Liverpool all you notice is rows of purple bins in front of peoples homes…it’s looks to tacky (even on the nicer streets) Our bins are dark green & brown which aren’t such an eyesore.

I live in Skem, moved here 29 years ago from Liverpool and yes I still have my accent 😂 You highlighted the parts of Skem that have been forgotton, council don't give one and won't invest in the area. You were truthful and honest. However there are some lovely areas, I live in Ashurst, which is a lot of home built in the 80s and alot of new builds. I love Skem, like Liverpool, they are salt of the earth people and will look out for each other. I'm glad I was given the opportunity to bring my children up here and although Liverpool is in my heart I couldn't move back to a city. Come to Ashurst next time. I will make you a cup of tea 😊 💙 From a fellow Everton fan 💙

The “no face no case” factor of the Bally is only beneficial where CCTV has captured a crime but as you say, they don’t hide DNA/prints, many people will frown upon these young lads but society is broken the system is a mess and there’s nothing else better for them to be doing ,there just normal kids stuck in a rut and the more run down the areas are the less chance of local councils helping any youth that reside

I with my young family moved to skelm is the eighties. It was a vibrant town with a great town center (the Conny) It was always buzzing and all areas were looked after, grass cut in the summer, clean streets and estates. West Lancs Council has let Skelm go, spending nothing on it even though it is the biggest town in west Lancs that brings in a lot of revenue to the burough. As you see the council spends very little on thier housing stock or areas where neglect has set in. They promised Skelm a new high street with shops if they sold off the green belt for housing. We got three bloody shops. They negate responsability for all services in Skelm and have like most councils sub contracted them out to firms that are more interested in profit than delivering quality services. The people of Skelm are fantastic and deserve better than what we are getting from the scandelous West Lancs Council. We need out of West Lancashire and into Merseyside or a council that will see the true potential of this lovely town. Skelm is a great place to live.

This was bad when first built, and the new builds are terrible, extremely poor quality, will not last ten years before having to be pulled down. Tan House estate looks lovely with its ventilation to those houses, no more windows to block the fresh air from coming in. The black stuff is damp on the outside of the walls.

Kids in balaclavas are thick. They’ll be be soft as and have no idea about life or what their future holds if that keep playing that game. Spent a few years golf my life there and it was great. People were not so well off but good. Now getting dragged down lower by kids in balaclavas. Sad Britain

If you considered that place bad you should take a trip across the Mersey and have a look at Birkenhead, North End. Don’t go on public transport or you’ll never get the smell of BO and human excrement off your clothes. Go to Bebbington, perhaps Port Sunlight. You’ll be wishing you were back in Skelmersdale. Oh and the only fact I know about Skelmersdale is that the architect that designed it hung himself shortly after. Now that you have shown us his handy work perhaps we can speculate why he might have done so. I watched your Runcorn visit and thought that place a hundred-times worse than anywhere else. Keep up the good work.
