okay see this is the shit i hate abt that "retail price" scam bullshit u can get "sodalite genuine" daniel smith watercolor sticks on dickblick for fucking $8.74. theyre not FiFteEn DoLLaRs, thats a fuckin lie. like saying the value of a copic in the us is over $8. no it fucking isnt, thats a scam n everyone knows it. the "retail VALUE" of a fucking copic marker is $5.85 in america, n anything else u r getting fucking ripped off. fact. end of story. if everyone is selling the ps5 for $700, n i charge $900, the retail value is fucking $700 n im being a cock. even if sony says "weLL tEcHnicaLLy u CaN cHarGe $900," just so that it seems like ur getting a deal, n then some ppl can make a free $200 over the already-strong profit margins of the product, by screwing u. the ecoline is the same price, but even dick fucking blick doesnt have a "retail value" marketing thing besides the ds watercolor sticks. they have the "list price" of copics at $7.99 but honestly idc cuz ime dick blick has honestly lost a good amt of money just shipping out backorders to me in rly good packaging, they get my shit here fast, n its free shipping if u order over like $50-$100 depending on the day. also hobby lobby n michaels n shit, besides for coupons idk how to get, will absolutely fuck u on copics. anyways tho, they have the ds wc sticks as just whatever price they r, plain n simple. i dont even have a thing against the price of copics, plus after refills they come out as one of the cheaper options, n im sure exporting n availability is kinda rough, i mean obviously u gotta make money too, n u have employees n shit, n $5.85 also makes sense for the quality. im sure u get fucked worse at mcdonalds. but that "FiFteEn DoLLaRs" bullshit is the fakest most annoying shit.

@@yuckyskunk2021 Well, yes you do have to take the retail value listed on any product with a grain of salt. But it's not like only the Sketchbox company does it, those are the same listed retail prices that all the art websites will list the items at to then show what a great deal you are getting by purchasing through them. Yes, a savvy shopper would never pay those prices. But the idea is that you are getting about exactly what you pay for with these subscriptions, and as they are picking the items and putting them together to try out, you can then find the supplies you really like and then bargain-hunt for better prices when you shop for them yourself.

It was nice seeing both versions and seeing the difference. For me their boxes aren't that different like they used to be. I used to get their premium boxes all the time.

Yes, that is why I wanted to try both boxes for a short while, I had noticed that their Basic boxes used to be quite different. It is good to know you aren't missing out on much if you choose the less expensive option.

I checked the stoneground watercolour website and the Hudson Bay Blue is indeed a little more expensive (all the metallic shades are) but I think the real reason they spring for the different shade is that the Daniel Smith stick is already a deep blue like the ultramarine pan in the Basic box so they had room to have more fun with colour variety. I'm definitely interested to see what you think of the two boxes side by side for a couple months in a row! When I first started trying supply boxes like these I did 3 months of SketchBox Basic followed by 3 months of Premium, but I always looked to see what the other got. Sometimes it's like this where there's very little different and the important stuff is the same brand. Sometimes not so much! My second Basic box was the month SketchBox got a exclusive on the Derwent Lightfast pencils when those were new. Basic didn't get those pencils. They got Derwents, yes, but they got Colorsoft, which are not only not all lightfast shades but also a completely different type of core type. I was not pleased! But then on the flip side, my last month with Basic before I tried premium, they featured brush pens by the same brand as those liquid watercolours as well as liquid watercolor brush pens that were SketchBox's own brand. Premiums got 2 of the Marabu pens and a larger selection of the SketchBox pens. Basic got 2 of the SketchBox pens and a full 6 pack box of the Marabu pens. The colour selection of the loose pens were randomized and didn't necessarily go together, but obviously the 6 set retail box did, so I was glad I didn't have the Premium that time. My first Basic box was the biggest disappointment, though. The theme for the month was PanPastels. Premium got 5 PanPastels in primaries + black & white. Basic got 2 in black and a rusty colour plus a couple pastel pencils. How about skip the pencils and just give Basic the 3 primaries? It's always my theory when subscriptions boxes don't send a full primaries set (ScrawlrBox is notorious for it) it's because the brand wants people to have to buy more, but the black & rust combo didn't inspire me to play with and like the medium in the first place. I gave them away.

Understandable, to be fair the companies usually go off of suggested retail prices for the "deals" you get in the box. Looking at the numbers, though, you seem to break even on either box if you normally shop your supplies yourself with an eye for a deal.
