Hey mike, thank you for doing what your doing. I have been appraising for 27 years and have been using the pencil and paper routine. Since I viewed your videos I am in the process of using the iPad, disto5 and voice dictation. It has been a little bit overwhelming learning everything but in the end no doubt I will be more efficient. Thank you again from Denver, CO

Hello Ronnie, I'm glad you found the videos helpful. I initially put some videos together to show other appraiser's tools I was using that were saving me time. Now that I have implemented a lot of these into my business it saves me over one hour per day and over 5000 sheets of paper month. I get a lot of positive feedback from these videos and I keep doing them because people are also saving time and money, which is a great thing for all of us. Stay in touch and Have a good day. Mike

That's exactly what I plan on doing. Just going old school and then adding technology where I see opportunity for greater productivity. I would love to see the full work flow video. That would be amazing for new people like myself to learn from a experienced pro.

Hi Mike. Thanks for sharing the videos. Excellent information for us fellow appraisers. I am a trainee for about 10 years now just finishing up my degree to get certified. I am going to get out of the old and into the new. Looks like this is the best way to be efficient. I work out of LaSalle County IL and will without a doubt implement some of your ideas. Keep up the good work Mike! Hope to see new videos soon.

Congratulations on getting started in the appraisal business. I have found it to be very rewarding. Nice to see you are doing research on how to be more productive. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. I'm currently using the D-5 it works great but eats batteries. I would still highly recommend it. I used an A-8 for many years that worked great. You may want to check ebay or craigslist as many are lightly used. You can see all of my Disto videos on my youtube channel. Good Luck and stay in touch.

Mike, I'm glad it helped. Let me know if you want me to do a video on another part of the sketching program that would help you and maybe some other people. I don't hear I'm "awesome" enough! Thanks!

Thanks Mike. I think that's American pricing. Stuff is always a little bit more in Canada. This is a local hardware store so they will probably just let me try it outside before I buy it. If I have to go with a model over $250 I'll just wait till I'm a little more experienced in the industry. BTW training is coming along nicely!

I would not rush into buying stuff. I've done that and lost a ton of money. You can start with a tape measure and pad of paper. I'd implement tools and technology into your business as you go. I work about 30 miles west of Chicago. I use Alamode as well. I can only recommend from what I've used .I use the iPad and an A-5 Disto and love it. I've had a bunch of people request a video of my workflow. I'll be doing a video of my entire daily appraisal workflow process. If your interested.

I have a lot to learn too! I will share more of what I've learned. I said when I had 10,000 views I would do a training DVD. I hit 10,000 now I will work on a full training video in early 2013.

Alamode has a video on it. I made the videos to help appraisers and total on the ipad is a product that many appraisers use. I try to keep the videos to 3 minutes.

What happens if you accidentally erase your sketch? How many times can you undo an action in the app? This is my biggest problem making me sticking with paper.

I love mobile for Total but my sketch grid is rectangles, not squares. The ratio of vertical lines to horizontal lines is 1:3 and has caused me to sidestep one of the great advantages of going mobile. Can you help me fix my grid, Please and Thank You?

Hi David, I used the ipad 3 years and switched to a samsung tablet because the camera was better. I use the camera in the tablet for all the photos in my report now. The photo quality is okay but not great. It is one less step to have to do. Mike

Mike, how does the Disto A-5 work in bright sunlight? Do you ever find that you can not see the laser light? Are those special orange colored sunglasses ever needed?
@MichaelMila
10 жыл бұрын
Brian, It work fine 90% of the time. I work the sides that are not as bright and "back into" the bright side. Do 3 sides and close the side you have limited visibility on. I never had a need for the glasses.

Hey Mike - do you know if the Disto E7300 would be sufficient for appraisers? The hardware store near me sells them for CDN$209. They carry the higher models too but not sure if I would need all the advanced features.

Hello, It's on Amazon for $199. Many websites say it is not for exterior use. It says using it outside is an "unfavorable" condition. I would not take the chance. You could try it and return it I suppose. There are many good ones on craigslist and ebay as well. I have only used the D-5 and A-8 and they work perfect.
