I make model cars (out of wood). It would be helpful to create the model in sketch-up before I make it. I am a beginner and watched a lot of beginner videos. None of them, so far, deal with adding a curved line to a flat box, counter sinking holes, edge rounding and 45 degreeing. like your videos. will keep searching.

If you added or subtracted anything from this set of steps, it might not work. Thanks!

I realize that I'm a bit late to the party and I find these clips to be well presented. But it would be nicer if you presented functions in a logical sequence. Very good video. Not so much about woodworking per se until the end but you gave a lot of needed basic fundamentals. I am a hobby-ist woodworker and I make a lot of things in my head, along with a rough drawing on graph paper and subsequently I make a lot of mistakes. I want to learn SketchUp so I can do a better job of creating plans before I cut that first piece of wood. Like I just made a flag case and I based it off of 3 different plans. So I want to make SketchUp plans so if I am asked in 2-3 months or so to make another one, I will have detailed plans to go on. I know, boring and TMI for a comment. In other words, this is providing me with a great foundation. Thank you and I will be watching more of your videos.

Quick question. When you move the second side of the shelf 2' 6" away, the gap (which is what will be measured) isn't 2'6" because it measures from the inside edge of what is being copied to the outside edge of the duplicate. How just get 2'6" in the gap?
@Thesketchupessentials
6 жыл бұрын
You could use the guide tool to draw a 2'6" guide in the gap, then move it so that it's aligned with that guide. You could also just move it again to a length of the thickness of the piece in that same direction, or you could just adjust for that extra thickness in your original move distance. Does that make sense?

Great video, very informative. I only have one criticism, there is some music / noise in the background which is barely audible, but just intrusive enough to distract your attention away from the video content. This is most annoying and leaves me wondering why so many youtube videos are produced like this. Is it because there is a conception that none of us has any attention span anymore? Grrrrr!

Outstanding! This whole concept of groups and components was confusing to me, but you have cleared up a great deal! Don't worry about going too fast - a person can re-run the video multiple times; far better than plodding along! One stumbling block I have had is how to move two objects together so that their faces end up coplanar. I am sure there is a simple trick, but haven't hit on it yet.
@Thesketchupessentials
6 жыл бұрын
Usually your best bet to get objects coplanar is to use inferencing - move objects along on the the axes and hold the shift key to lock to those axes. Then you can just mouse over the object you're trying to align. Hope that made a bit of sense. Thanks!

This is very helpful information. Thanks for posting this. Three questions please: - Does one of your videos show how to create a cut sheet that takes the kerf of the table saw blade into account? - Are there reusable components available, or that could be created to cover things like standard sheet goods, with REAL dimensions? What about ways to model different types of joints or rabbits? - Also, as you know, there is no longer a downloadable free version of SketchUp, does this impact the techniques you describe in these videos at all? I'm still getting started, but the UI seems pretty different to me from what you're showing using SketchUp Pro 2017. Thanks again!
